?? ?????????????? ???????? ????????????: ?? ?????? ??????, ?? ?????? ???????????????????????? Qadiyr Farmer, a 31-year-old with Schizoaffective Disorder, has faced challenges in gaining and maintaining employment due to his symptoms. A personable, funny, and attentive individual, Qadiyr thrives on social interaction and is intrinsically motivated by his strong family bond. His primary goal is to care for his family, particularly his grandmother, who has always cared for and supported him. With the support of Sanctuary House’s Individual Placement Support-Supported Employment Services, Qadiyr received the help he needed to secure meaningful work. Thanks to the guidance and support of his employment specialist Naaliah, Qadiyr was offered a full-time server position at University of North Carolina at Greensboro's dining hall. Qadiyr also receives support from our Employment Peer Mentor/Benefits Counselor with Social Security benefits information, food stamps, and Access GSO. And now, through a partnership with his new job, Qadiyr can utilize the city bus for free. His family is overjoyed about this new opportunity, marking an exciting new chapter in his life. #MomentsThatMatter #SanctuaryHouse #MentalHealthAwareness

?? Staff Spotlight: Hannah Grimesey ?? Welcome Hannah Grimesey, our new Program Specialist! Hannah started at Sanctuary House as an intern through UNCG’s BSW field placement program. She now works part-time while finishing her senior year and plans to join full-time after graduation this spring. She enjoys the daily collaboration between members and staff, from meetings and social planning to holiday events. When she first arrived, members shared that their favorite part of Sanctuary House was feeling safe to be themselves. That moment confirmed for her that she was in the right place. Outside of work, she spends her free time in nature, reading, writing, painting, and being with family and friends. She also enjoys attending Grace Community Church, working out, listening to Elton John, and drinking loose-leaf tea. #sanctuaryhousegso #greensboronc #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #shgso

Today, we are saying a bittersweet farewell to our dear Janeane Jackson. ???? For the past 6 years, Janeane has been an integral part of Hillcrest House, first with the original owner and then with Sanctuary House after we acquired the facility in 2020. Her dedication and advocacy have made a profound impact on the lives of our residents, ensuring they feel safe, loved, and cared for every single day. Janeane is embarking on a new journey, returning to her home state of New Jersey to be closer to family and pursue her bachelor’s degree. While we will miss her daily presence, we are grateful that she will continue to support Hillcrest House remotely and make occasional visits for long weekends. "Janeane brings so much joy, laughter, and compassion to Hillcrest House and our residents. It makes us incredibly sad that she will not be a stable fixture in the house each day, but she will always be a part of our Hillcrest House family." – Kate Calannio Join us in thanking Janeane for her years of service and wishing her the very best in this next chapter! #sanctuaryhousegso

?? ?????????????? ???????? ????????????: ?????????????? ???????????????????? & ???????????????????? ?? When we first met this member and his mother in December to create a Person-Centered Plan, he was struggling—angry, unfocused, and unhappy. After a long hospitalization, he had lost his group home placement and felt deeply isolated. His biggest wish? To develop real friendships, earn his GED, and regain employment. Starting Psychosocial Rehabilitation services was a big step. At first, he was anxious, unsure if he could form connections. As we introduced him to other members, he shared detailed stories of friendships—but we soon realized these "friends" were actually narratives from YouTube videos he had watched repeatedly. Then, something incredible happened. Over the next few weeks, those stories faded. He was no longer repeating YouTube tales—he was living his own. He made real friendships, engaged with others, and built meaningful connections. Now, he’s happier than ever, looking forward to moving into a new home and returning to work. This transformation is a reminder of the power of community, support, and a place to truly belong. ?? At Sanctuary House, no one has to walk their journey alone. #momentsthatmatter #sanctuaryhousegso #greensboronc #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #shgso

?????????????? ???????? ????????????: ?????????? ???????????? ?????????????????? Sometimes, a single connection can transform a life. One of our members faced significant challenges, including unmanaged anxiety and daily substance use to cope. Recognizing the need for support, we referred him to an outpatient facility for medication management. With the right medication, he began to feel more in control—reducing his substance use and addressing his anxiety in healthier ways. This pivotal step also opened the door to therapy, thanks to his psychiatrist linking him with a therapist through the same agency. This story is a testament to how ?????????????????????????? ???????? ?????? ???????????? ???? ?????????????????? can empower individuals to take meaningful steps toward a better future. At Sanctuary House, progress happens one step at a time. #momentsthatmatter #sanctuaryhousegso #greensboronc #dgso #nonprofit #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #shgso
