Senior Staff Attorney Laura Handler represented SDVLP at the California State University San Marcos DV Speak Out and Vigil in October. Every year CSUSM holds this event during domestic violence awareness month to pay tribute to lives lost to domestic violence and for prevention purposes. Many DV related organizations gather to provide resources and information to students for education and advocacy purposes. Laura spoke with over 30 students and many of the providers about SDVLP’s free legal services and where to go to get help should they or a friend ever need help seeking a protective order. #DVAM #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #domesticviolenceawareness??

In pursuit of our mission to provide equal access to the justice system, we work with hundreds of volunteer lawyers who donate their time and resources to help people facing civil legal challenges. We also rely on partnerships with community organizations, such as Logan Heights Community Development Corporation, City Heights Community Development, Christie's Place, and Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. We are honored to provide legal services at San Diego Family Justice Centers, #OneSafePlace and #YourSafePlace. With critical support of the City Attorney’s office and the District Attorney’s office, these “one-stop” centers provide wrap around support to anyone who has experienced domestic violence, family violence, elder abuse, sexual assault, sex trafficking, or other abuse or victimization, empowering people to move forward with their lives. Working together with individuals and organizations like these, we amplify our impact and extend legal services and other resources to more people in San Diego.
