Ever wonder how simple running shoes could change someone's life? Up and Running helps people facing homelessness regain confidence by training for half marathons. Runners build discipline, self-belief, and hope through the program. Over 100 participants finish the race each year, proving they can overcome challenges and start anew. Right now, our Mission Academy students are training for the upcoming San Diego Half Marathon. Thanks to the generosity of Fleet Feet San Diego—who donated 13 pairs of running shoes—our runners now have the shoes they need to race with confidence. This support is more than just shoes; it’s a gift of encouragement that inspires hope and change. Please pray for our students as they complete their half marathon later this month and learn more about our Mission Academy residential program here: https://lnkd.in/dmf8ZZaS

关于我们
For 65 years it has been more than our purpose – it has been our privilege — to help San Diego’s homeless and poor populations create better lives for themselves and, in turn, build a better community for us all Our comprehensive programs meet basic needs, then go further. They help our clients address the challenges behind their homelessness for positive, lasting change. They provide an opportunity for those in need to take control of their lives, find a new level of stability, and return to their communities as fulfilled, contributing members of society.

We’re so proud of Ramon, one of our Spring 2024 Mission Academy graduates and a WeRevive scholarship award winner! He continues to give back to the community in amazing ways. Ramon blesses our guests with his incredible haircuts at our holiday community meals, serving those experiencing homelessness with kindness and skill. ?? His heart for others is truly inspiring! He is using his story for good! #CommunityHero Congratulations Ramon. Thank you RMD Group...we love our community partners.
Ramon Gomez is the most unlikely internal award recipient in the 15-year history of the?RMD Group’s?company-wide Rookie of the Year program. Climbing the wooden stairs to the second floor of Storyhouse Spirits in East Village, Gomez doesn’t realize a very special surprise party awaits. He can’t see that the big bosses from RMD and dozens of employees are here. As well as the San Diego Rescue Mission official who recommended RMD take a chance and hire a formerly incarcerated drug user. Gomez gets to the top of the stairs, sees the crowd and is immobilized. The loft is emanating with kindness and love. In front of his workplace peers, and even his parents, Gomez forces himself to hold back tears. “I feel like I’m in a dream,” he says, After a moment, he says it again. “You may be temporarily homeless, addicted, broken or running from spousal abuse,” says Tim Marusic, an alumni ambassador with the?San Diego Rescue Mission?near Banker’s Hill.?“People can end up spiraling. At the Rescue Mission, we believe that when you’ve fallen hard, if you stand up and look for a greater purpose in life, have grace for others and grace for yourself, miraculous stuff will happen.” Read more about this unhoused-to-employment success story of Ramon Garcia: https://lnkd.in/gv74i2rw

Thank you to both organizations for having us!

“We have to figure something out for our baby. Being homeless is not comfortable.” – Taylor, Oceanside Navigation Center Guest Taylor, a guest at the Oceanside Navigation Center, never imagined she and her young daughter would be homeless. After their living situation fell apart when their roommates couldn’t accommodate a baby, Taylor and her partner found themselves in a desperate situation. Referred to the Navigation Center through a local church, their lives began to transform. Her partner secured steady work, and Taylor started EMT training—both key steps toward a brighter future. “He's able to get to work on time, have a good night's sleep, and take a shower... I started EMT school. They give us all the resources and so much support—jobs, housing, everything we need.” Your generous support changes lives. Thank you for being a beacon of hope for families throughout the County. Learn more about our emergency shelters here: https://lnkd.in/dRzWvJSx

Steven and Harvey found a way off the streets thanks to your support. Our system of care is a comprehensive approach. It offers food, shelter, and resources, guiding homeless neighbors toward healing and self-sufficiency. Your generosity changes lives. By adding new 30-day shelters, which we call Lighthouses, we’ve added 212 beds across the county. Once safe, guests can transition to long-term housing, or Mission Academy, where they can rebuild their lives, just like Steven and Harvey did. Your support powers programs like strategic community outreach, Lighthouse emergency shelters, Mission Academy, and more. Isaac’s Journey to Mission Academy Isaac arrived at the South County Lighthouse shelter with a strong desire to rebuild his life. He came seeking a long-term program that would help him develop new skills and give him the structure to improve his future. From the start, Isaac stood out for his kindness, his willingness to assist those around him, and his strong motivation to change his life. In January, Isaac took the next step by joining Mission Academy, our year-long residential program designed to help individuals experiencing homelessness achieve long-term stability. At Mission Academy, there are five key goals that guide students throughout their journey: Encounter God, Experience Recovery, Engage in Job Training and Placement, Establish Housing, and Enlist a Support Network. Please keep Isaac in your prayers this month, and take a moment to explore more inspiring stories of lives changed here: https://lnkd.in/gnrwtMwp

Check out our Director of Church Partnerships, Ashley Guzik Murray on Park Hill Church's podcast with Pastor Evan Wickham. She shares her testimony and how God led her to the Mission. Last week, I had the opportunity to share a bit about my journey working with the homeless population at the San Diego Rescue Mission with Pastor Evan Wickham at Park Hill Church, a church that I've called home for the past five years. It was an honor to talk about my personal "why" for the work that I do. If you have an extra 25 minutes, check it out!
