Additional homelessness shelter beds in the City of San Diego are made available when bad weather is forecast during the months of November through March. These Inclement Weather Shelter beds are activated when specific weather conditions are forecast. How many additional beds will be available each day depends on service providers’ staffing and capacity that day. When Inclement Weather Shelter beds are activated, an alert is posted on SDHC’s website at?www.sdhc.org, along with shelter locations and check-in times for the available beds. New collaborative initiatives were announced this morning to expand shelter and the options to address participants’ individual needs and provide a path toward resolving their homelessness. The new initiatives include adding 363 beds to the shelter system and implementing a shelter-focused homelessness diversion effort to free up additional beds. The interventions discussed today are the result of the Short-Term Action Plan on Homelessness that the City Council asked the City’s Homelessness Strategies and Solutions Department (HSSD) and SDHC to develop. The action plan was approved Oct. 1, 2024.? ? https://lnkd.in/gMvcrv6Q ? Mayor Todd Gloria City Council President Sean Elo-Rivera, J.D.
