Building homes, communities, and hope since 1988
关于我们
San Diego Habitat for Humanity is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and serves San Diego County. Habitat programs are focused on creating homes for ownership by low-income families in need, offering a hand up, not a handout. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, they achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. It is an autonomous 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It is governed locally, raises funds locally and builds locally. MISSION Seeking to put God’s love into action, San Diego Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat was founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a simple, decent and affordable home to live in dignity and safety.

A huge thank you to La Jolla Country Day School for partnering with us to create and decorate six incredible playhouses for local families! From imaginative under-the-sea designs to out-of-this-world space themes, their dedication and creativity will bring smiles to children for years to come. We’re grateful for their support and commitment to making a difference in our community. Partnerships like these help us continue our mission of building stronger, more vibrant neighborhoods—one playhouse at a time.

By 2030, 20% of the U.S. population will be 65 or older. Yet, more than 19 million older adults live in homes that are in disrepair or ill-equipped to meet their needs safely. In addition to building new houses, we also partner with older adults to make accessibility upgrades to their homes. These upgrades allow seniors to continue living in their homes and communities while maintaining their independence and quality of life to age in place. We know that aging in place extends longevity and quality of life. Older adults are mentally and physically healthier, feel safer at home, and engage more with their family and friends. Honoring President Jimmy Carter’s Legacy? Last week, the California State Legislature officially declared December 29th as President Jimmy Carter Day, celebrating his lifelong commitment to affordable housing. Sponsored by Habitat for Humanity California and championed by Senator Anna Caballero (D-Merced) and Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), this recognition honors his lasting impact. "President Carter believed in lifting people up, one home at a time," said Kwofi Reed, President and CEO of San Diego Habitat for Humanity. "His hands-on leadership in our region left an indelible mark, reminding us that affordable homeownership transforms lives and strengthens communities. As we honor his legacy, we are reminded that the work he championed is far from over. Every home we build in San Diego and beyond reflects his unwavering belief that homeownership is a cornerstone of the American Dream. Together, we can continue his vision and ensure that everyone in our community has the opportunity to thrive." #JimmyCarterDay #HabitatForHumanity #CarterLegacy #AffordableHomeownership

Today, we celebrate the extraordinary life, service, and legacy of President Jimmy Carter. With his wife, Rosalynn, by his side, he worked tirelessly to build, renovate, and repair Habitat homes worldwide, creating brighter futures for families everywhere. His compassion knew no borders—through the 1990 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, he brought hope to our region, where over 3,000 volunteers joined him to build homes for 100 families in Tijuana and San Diego. As we honor the memory of this remarkable humanitarian who dedicated his life to selfless service, we extend our deepest love, thoughts, and prayers to the Carter family. We are also deeply grateful for the kind words and heartfelt support from the San Diego community as we reflect on his incredible impact. To carry on his mission, consider volunteering your time or making a gift to help more working San Diegans achieve the dream of homeownership. Together, we can continue the vision he so passionately championed. Join us in remembering him by visiting https://lnkd.in/gaNNY9Bm to sign Habitat for Humanity’s online memory book and be part of this global tribute.??
