We're excited to announce that thanks to a grant from the San Diego Foundation, we're partnering with local fishermen like the San Diego Fishermen's Working Group to obtain more than 1,000 pounds of fish every month for the families we serve! ?? Last fiscal year, the San Diego Food Bank helped supply more than 50 million pounds of food and supplies to families throughout San Diego County. Families typically receive essential food items like fruits and vegetables, oats and grains, and shelf-stable proteins — but one food item that has been difficult to obtain is fresh, locally caught fish. With the grant award and through our partnership with local fisheries, fish like tuna, swordfish, and halibut will now be distributed to the families we serve, contributing to a more well-rounded and balanced diet. The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is San Diego County’s leading, local hunger-relief organization. Last year, the Food Bank distributed 44 million pounds of food, and served, on average, 400,000 people per month in San Diego County. The Food Bank recently expanded our efforts in North County with the acquisition of the North County Food Bank. The Food Bank receives food from a variety of sources and through financial contributions that enable us to purchase protein-rich foods, fresh produce, and dry staple foods such as beans, oatmeal, and rice. We also benefit from the generosity of more than 25,000 volunteers annually that help to sort and distribute donated and purchased food products. The Food Bank works to acquire, store, organize, and distribute food through a network of more than 500 nonprofit partner organizations that include food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless and residential shelters, youth programs, senior centers, and low-income daycare centers in communities throughout San Diego County. The Food Bank also distributes food directly to those in need at over 200 distribution sites throughout the county. The results from the 'Scare Away Hunger’ Peanut Butter Drive are in! ???? A very special THANK YOU to all our wonderful North County community and business partners who participated in in this year's Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive. Thanks to their efforts 4,681 pounds of peanut butter and other popular nut butter spreads were collected in both our famous red barrels and through our Scare Away Hunger virtual food drives!
