IT’S LAUNCH DAYYYYYYYYY! My course, The Art of Business & The Business of Art is officially launching TODAY!!! And having it come out on March 12th is extra special for me because, as many of you know, I lost my oldest brother Chris to cancer in 2008 and today is his birthday. My co-creator Becky Goldberg Petty seemingly randomly chose today as the launch date a few weeks ago and when she told me the date I just KNEW it was the right one. My brother always was a huge supporter of my art and my dreams and encouraged me to always reach for the stars, even if I had to stand on a cactus, so having this culmination of literal decades of my work be born into the world on his birthday is just so so special to me. ???????? We are hosting a launch party for the course on Sunday, April 6th at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center with a VIP Brunch from 11:30-1 and the party from 1-4. There will be a bunch of fun announcements about our future plans now that the course is finally out, including the launch of our speaker series on Creative Entrepreneurship! There will be a short speaker panel at the event featuring successful local artists from our community, as well as resource partners, raffles, yummy food and a cash bar. Additionally, this whole event will serve as the initial fundraising effort for a fund to provide childcare at professional development events in and around WNY, and a portion of the proceeds from the course will continue to build that fund. “Am I the only woman here?” That’s how it felt sometimes. Starting in finance, there were not many women and the women who were around, for the most part, operated on their own islands. Not because they wanted to, but because that’s the way it had always been: each practitioner?as a “lone wolf.” This weekend at SXSW, I saw rooms full of women coming together as professional advisors, founders, and investors. The energy, focus, and excitement for building, investing, and working with new technology was powerful. These women weren’t just succeeding, they were collaborating, supporting, curating and exchanging resources. I smiled and thought: Women are not lone wolves, we are LIONESSES. And lionesses hunt together. It was electrifying to see the number of women who want to talk about money, invest their values, compare notes on entrepreneurship, share resources and lift each other up. What a perfect way to kick off SXSW and International Women’s Day. Thank you so much to the @ayanafoundation for inviting me to share Fin Rock with such an inspiring community dedicated to empowering women founders. Finance, like music, can be even more powerful when shared. I’m excited to continue the conversation. ?? My next Fin Rock song is out today! ?? So, as a financial advisor, I talk with a lot of people about their personal finances. One thing I want to share is how common it is for people to say they never really had a “financial education.” It’s not something most of us were taught in school—many tell me they don’t even know what they don’t know, and that can feel overwhelming. Some of the most common questions I hear: ?? “What should I invest in?” ?? “I don’t really want to look, but if I did, where do I go to find my financial info?” ? “Where do I even start?” ?? It reminded me of a conversation with a gardener about how to approach planting in my overgrown garden. I wrote “Plan Before You Plant” as a garden-themed mini guide to getting financially organized—with an aggressive dose of electric guitar. Obvi. ????
