New?SAME?STEM Camp in Hawai‘i The?SAME?Honolulu Post is hosting a new STEM Camp in February on the North Shore. We are looking for?volunteers?who are interested in participating in day-shift roles, as well as roles that involve staying in the cabins for the weekend. Who: Volunteers in private industry as well as in the uniformed services. We have space for up to 24 volunteers to stay overnight in the adults-only cabins. Campers will be High School students (all genders). We have space for up to 40 student campers. What: Society of American Military Engineers STEM Camp Where: Camp Paumalu. The facility is owned by the Girl Scouts of Hawaii. We are renting the facility from them, but this is not a Girl Scout branded event. All are welcome. When: February 15-17, 2025 (This is a holiday weekend at the start of Engineers Week) Why: One of the goals of?SAME?is to enrich the STEM pipeline for the nation. Camps are one way to support this goal. In addition, Samantha Long and Alyssa Agustin are currently students in a?SAME?National Leadership Development Program. This is their project for the program to practice leadership skills and further the mission of?SAME. With a record-breaking attendance of 525, I couldn't be prouder of our incredible 44-person volunteer team! After nine months of meticulous planning and dedication, their hard work truly shone as they took care of our guests! This week was all about forging great connections, renewing friendships, and strengthening our IGE bonds alongside my Sea Engineering, Inc. colleagues—Andrew Rocheleau, Chris Conger, Marc Ericksen, and Gregory Wong. The SAME Honolulu Post's 2024 Pacific Industry Forum was honored to welcome the Society of American Military Engineers National President Sharon Krock, SPWS, FSAME Krock, who shared the immense value of SAME and brought so much joy to our events. A special thank you to Sharon for presenting me with the President's coin—an honor I’ll treasure! We were also inspired by NAVFAC Pacific RADM Jeffrey J. Killian's powerful keynote address, alongside insightful briefs from INDOPACOM, US Army Corps of Engineers, PACAF, U.S. Coast Guard, MCBH, the Australian Defence Force, Japan WGP Engineer Office, and Japan Society of Defense Facility Engineers.
