Another custom fixture we made for our Samchully Workholding, Inc. 4th axis. We've been producing this part in one of our 3 axis mills for the last 15 years and it has a few challenges. Mainly the bore that runs through the part and the crossholes that intersect it. The bore needs to go in before any cross holes can be machined, and half the part needs machined to go into the fixturing to machine that bore. All in all this part was 5 operations. A little tedious and lots of extra handling. I came up with this fixture after we were successful with a similar setup using our dovetail vises. I was 50/50 on whether or not it would work out, sideloading these little vises while pushing a larger drill through had me a little nervous but it worked out flawlessly! Though we added a "prep" operation to cut the dovetail features on the stock, the rest of the part was done in just 2 operations, one on the 4th axis and the last using two vises. Much improvement over 5 unique setups previously!
