This past Monday, Cole Cuzzi and I had the incredible honor of completing the 129th Boston Marathon. It was truly a day I’ll never forget—running alongside my best friend while raising over $25,000 in support of mental health awareness. I’m beyond grateful for every person who donated, encouraged us, and cheered us on every step of the way. Your support meant the world to us, and we couldn’t have done it without you. A heartfelt thank you to the Samaritans, Inc. team for allowing me and trusting me to represent such a powerful mission. I’m proud to be part of a community that’s making a real impact and reminding people every day that mental health matters—and that no one is ever alone.   All for you, Hammy 💜 #BostonMarathon #MentalHealthAwareness #Samaritans

The next in person SafePlace group for anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide will meet on Tuesday, April 29, at 6:30pm-8:00pm ET. Register at samaritanshope.org/gss. Samaritans SafePlace meetings are caring support groups for suicide loss survivors. Meetings are facilitated by trained volunteers who have also lost a loved one to suicide. SafePlace is not a professional therapy group, but rather a peer support group providing a forum for exploring feelings often not understood by others. It offers a chance to share helpful resources, and to give and get support through the long process of grieving. Meetings are free, ongoing, and drop-in.

💚 26.2 Miles for Suicide Prevention. Kevin Hayden, founder of Whole Mind Therapy and Counseling, completed the 2025 Boston Marathon this week in support of suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Running as part of the Samaritans, Inc. Marathon Team, Kevin helped raise $10,100 this year—bringing his two-year fundraising total to over $20,000. As a therapist, Kevin’s commitment to this cause is personal. Whole Mind Therapy and Counseling exists to support people in navigating difficult moments, breaking down stigma, and accessing meaningful and personalized care. "This race was different than last year, but the mission was the same. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of something bigger than myself. Whatever you're going through—it can be figured out. You are far more capable than you give yourself credit for." Reach out and ask for help. The Whole Mind Team is here for you. #mentalhealthmatters #suicideprevention #breakthestigma #bostonmarathon

Why is it so hard to talk about suicide? It's such a hard topic to talk about, whether you: - don't know what to say - are afraid you'll make things worse - are worried you'll overstep boundaries - don't think what someone's feeling isn't that serious - are uncomfortable with being emotional and vulnerable At the end of the day, it stems from: - anxiety you might make things worse - helplessness that you won't be able to help - fear of hearing someone's feelings and the guilt of that fear Luckily, it doesn't have to be impossible. This week, Lucie and I followed up on last week's episode and talk to Kacy C. Maitland, LICSW, Chief Clinical Officer at Samaritans, Inc. about how to talk to the people in our lives we think are struggling. Kacy talks through how prevention can go a long way, but also what we can say in the moment. What emotions arise when you think about our planet's future? The term "eco-anxiety" describes the fear, worry, and helplessness many feel about the climate crisis. It particularly affects young people, who can experience grief and trauma related to the future of our planet. For many of us, this anxiety can be paralyzing. Here are some ways you can take action to support the Earth and your own mental health: 1) Reconnect with nature. Spend time outdoors appreciating our beautiful planet and remembering what's worth protecting. 2) Take small steps to reduce your carbon footprint. Studies show that taking action is not only good for our environment, it also benefits your mental health. 3) Get support for your feelings. Climate change can feel overwhelming, but you are not alone. Know there are activists and changemakers worldwide who are driving solutions and taking action. Learn more from The Resilient Activist, who offer resources on staying nourished and supported as an activist. Youth under 24 can text Hey Sam at 439-726 to receive free, nonjudgmental peer support. You can always text or chat 988 24/7 to receive support. Or chat online at chat.988lifeline.org. #EarthDay
