We had a great day at the Big Give at Fry's Food and Drug working together to fight hunger in Arizona. Such an awesome partnership between The Salvation Army Roswell and local launder Uncle Suds Laundry to provide neighbors affected by the flooding with complimentary laundry services. Roswell Corps Captain Michael Evans shared, "Speaking with the owner of Uncle Suds he told me the stories of the people coming in for the services we are providing there and it is very appearance that it is making a huge impact. One elderly gentleman came in with 2 bags of laundry. His bags were dripping mud and he was very distraught. He was doing his best to get his house in order and felt he just couldn't afford the time to sit and do laundry. When the owner told him about our program to help him and he could just leave his clothes there and come back later so he can use his few precious moments working on his home his five lit up, he started praising God, and was ready to do back flips. It totally gave him some hope back in this dire situation." The community that comes together in times of need is a blessed one. It was outstanding to have FedEx employees join us today in honoring nearly 200 heroes with breakfast treats, gift bags, games and other resources. The Salvation Army has made it our mission since WWI to serve the men and women who have so nobly served our great nation. A severe winter storm has devastated northern New Mexico and the The Salvation Army Southwest Division Santa Fe Corps is responding! Last night, we served over 40 people at our warming center with hot food and cold weather resources during this historic snowfall event. In these times of need, your assistance is vital. The Salvation Army Southwest Division is continuing to respond to flooding in Roswell, New Mexico. So far, The Emergency Disaster Response Team has served 5,291 people and 5,531 Meals helping the residents of Roswell. In addition to providing meals we are providing clean up kits, blankets, laundry services and spiritual care as they work through the challenges they are facing due to floods.
