The Salvadori Center ~ bringing math, science, and the arts to life!
关于我们
All too often we hear students ask, “Why do I need to know this?” They question the relevance of math and science to their lives and their futures. Salvadori’s innovative Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) based programs give students the tools they need to answer this question for themselves. The Salvadori Center shows students the relevance of math and science using the buildings, bridges, landmarks, and parks in their local communities. Through collaborative, hands-on, project-based learning, and a scientific method of discovery, students see the math and science within the classrooms they enter, the bridges they cross, the parks they play in, and the buildings they see every day.

This morning, we were excited to?host NYC Council Member Eric Dinowitz, representing Council?District 11 in the Bronx, with P.S. 344 Ampark Neighborhood School! ?? ? Council Member Dinowitz was able to see our decade-long partnership with Ampark Neighborhood School through the Skateparks program. Salvadori students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th?grade applied their knowledge of scale to prepare for their final project of building a skatepark model. ?? ? In addition,?Council Member Dinowitz was able to hear from a NYU?researcher?about the benefits of Salvadori’s project-based learning approach in early grades on children’s mindsets about STEAM interest, usefulness, and self-efficacy. A long-time educator himself, Council Member Dinowitz resonated with?discussing student data and the implications for instruction. ?? ? We are grateful for the deep partnership with Ampark Neighborhood School and to be able to share this important work with Council Member Dinowitz. ??

As a young professional it always brings joy to my heart when I can share my passion for engineering with the next generation of engineers. One day I got a message from Theresa Taylor asking if I was able to make time to share a part of my professional life with a program of students from Salvadori. To which I happily agreed. I started working right away with our senior community relations program admin Ann Blaskiewicz on how we could get these students to our office. She immediately started reaching out to our other departments including our electrical division and our safety division. She was the key to making this event happen. Everyone was super excited to be apart of this engagement and contributed their time to be present for these students. To say the least that day was a success and we look forward to having Salvadori Center students with us again. I would also like to thank Janet Toporcer, Michael Pehonich, Lisa Gigliello, Vincent A. DeGiusto Jr., and John Shaver for the time they put in to be apart of this educational exchange. #UGIUtilitiesInc #UGICORP #EngineersofTomorrow
