Hey NetSuite Admins! Getting Segregation of Duties right in NetSuite means you cut back on risk, prevent fraud, and keep auditors happy. But getting it wrong? That can lead to unauthorized access, security gaps, and compliance issues. Not what you want! ?????? Here are Sonny Spencer BFP FCA's 10 Best Practices for ensuring your NetSuite SoD policies are solid: ? Leverage Compensating Controls – Use SuiteFlow to restrict approvals when a user creates or edits a record. ? Show Role Differences – Compare multiple roles at once to spot access gaps across entire processes. ? Standardize Roles Globally – In OneWorld, categorize roles by function instead of creating region-specific versions. ? Avoid Global Permissions – They override role-based access and increase security risks—so stick to defined roles. ? Review Permissions Regularly – Extract and audit all user roles to ensure appropriate access. ? Test In Sandbox First – Never roll out major role changes without confirming users can still do their jobs. ? Use Only Custom Roles – Default NetSuite roles often grant excessive permissions—tailor them instead. ? Apply Least Privilege Access – Grant only the minimum permissions needed to get the job done. ? Challenge Deletion Requests – Most users don’t need delete access; edit is usually enough. ? To keep things clean, efficient, and user-friendly, follow these best practices from Sonny Spencer BFP FCA: ?? 1. Keep it simple – Too many tabs and links? Your users will get lost. Only include what’s truly needed. ?? 2. Standardize across roles – If two teams use similar functions, don’t reinvent the wheel. Consistency = efficiency. ?? 3. Use clear labels – “Reports” is better than “Analytics Hub 2.0” (No one wants to play Nancy Drew to find what they need.) ?? 4. Group logically – Think like your users. Put related functions together so they don’t waste time hunting. ?? 5. Test before rolling out – Get feedback from actual users before making changes live. Small tweaks can make a big impact! ?? 6.
