    We're in the final hours of COP28 and it's on the precipice of failure. This, after 2,456 fossil fuel representatives infiltrated (a 286% increase on COP27), and the President of the process was exposed for brokering new oil and gas deals - before publicly denying climate science. Yet the problem isn't COP28. It's a political system that represents the interests of a few billionaires, rather than the planet’s billions of people. Our mistake would be accepting that this is the best we can do. That our only choice is to show up to processes like COP28 - or for the average person, the polling station - and choose between “bad” and “worse”. I reject this idea. Not because I’m na?ve, or an idealist, but because I’ve read my history books. History shows us that true leadership will not come from those who benefit from the system remaining unchanged. True leadership will come from those who have everything to lose; but also, everything to gain. As I told attendees of the #NextGen2023 conference, the state of the world feels incredibly dire; yet that is exactly why this moment demands courage.     The most surprising aspect of the Inside Climate News reporting on #carbonoffset projects in #Brazil's Amazon is the significant disconnect between the intentions of the #carbon credit market and its impact on #local communities. Lack of Informed Consent: Despite Brazilian law requiring free, informed, and prior consent for projects involving Indigenous and traditional communities, these procedures were often inadequately followed. This oversight is surprising, given the legal requirements and the potential impact of these projects. Contradiction in Purpose and Execution: The carbon offset projects are designed to combat #climatechange and supposedly benefit local communities. However, the reporting reveals that they often do not engage effectively with these communities, potentially infringing on their rights and not delivering promised benefits. Underestimation of Local Knowledge and Needs: The approach of the carbon credit companies reflects a surprising underestimation of the local communities' deep connection to their land and their knowledge of sustainable practices.     How many women in STEM were left out of the history books? Thousands. Dr. #JessicaWade, a London-based physicist, is working to encourage more women to pursue #STEM careers. How? In her 20s, she began writing the Wikipedia biographies about women and minority scientists who never got their due. Now, she has started spending her Sunday afternoons nominating top female scientists and scientists of color for major prizes and fellowships. She says she got sick of seeing scientists “doing awesome things and not getting credit for it." In her effort to make sure women scientists are known, she believes it will fuel a desire in the next generation! Her work has earned her an invite to Buckingham Palace to receive the prestigious British Empire Medal, for her contributions to science. What gives Wade hope for the future? She says, “There’s a whole community of us, of outspoken people who are really proactive about changing academia. And it’s not a small group. It’s big.” #womeninSTEM

    Many managers are overworked and stressed, constantly moving from one task to another without time to manage effectively. This lack of self-management often leads to ineffective team management.
