#Shipping woes set to hit trade hard once again... The lockout of over 700 BC port workers yesterday afternoon threatens the wider Canadian economy and #SmallBusinesses nationwide with no end in sight... Over CA $800M in trade flows through these ports each day and now there are concerns that the US East and Gulf Coast strikes that lasted just 3 days during October, could rear up again following the January 15th deadline to reach an agreement. ?? BC Port Lockout Threatens Saskatchewan Economy ?? A lockout of over 700 foremen at British Columbia ports is putting Saskatchewan’s economy at risk. This disruption follows failed contract negotiations between the B.C. Maritime Employers Association and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. Approximately $800 million in goods pass through West Coast ports daily, with 44% of Saskatchewan's exports relying on the Port of Vancouver. As operations come to a standstill, Saskatchewan businesses dependent on these shipments face significant challenges. Labor disruptions at Canadian ports are increasingly frequent, disproportionately threatening our agriculture and resource sectors that rely on timely exports. The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce urges both parties, along with federal Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon, to use all resources available to reach a swift resolution.
