This isn't goodbye, but see ya later ?? After 22 years with Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority, we say farewell and happy retirement to David Roel! His positive attitude, friendliness, professionalism, dedication, and consistent “Hey Buddy!” will be greatly missed by his colleagues. During his tenure, he was the first Household Hazardous Waste Technician for our agency and maintained a zero-violation record, assisted with the HHW's growth and transitions, trained staff members, and leaves behind a legacy of contributions to colleagues and the residents of the Salinas Valley. Safety first! ?? Our diversion workers must complete daily pre- and post-checks on their heavy machinery before they start and end their day. This preventative maintenance is regularly performed to lessen the likelihood of machinery failure. Now that Gus Lozano, Diversion Worker II, has completed his pre-check that includes lubing and fueling, he is off and ready to go. CHEERS to 10 years!! ?? Our Finance team has just received the 10th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023. The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. Thanks to our team at the landfill and our Field Operations Supervisor, Juan Camacho Jr, who spotted this load destined for the landfill and redirected it to our organics operation for further evaluation. Sure enough, most of this load was not trash at all ?? This is just one example of many of how we stand by our mission in working towards a future without landfills. Though we wish we could rescue all resources from the landfill every time, it remains everyone's responsibility to keep all recyclables, including food and yard waste, out of the landfill ?
