Probabilistic thinking is never easy. Though Salient's data-driven approach enables a quantitative approach to probabilistic decision-making, we couldn't help but smile at this. Shoutout to XKCD for the great comic (link in comments). #forecastfurther

? Winter has arrived in many parts of the US this week. Salient Advisory and Associate Professor of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma, Jason Furtado writes about how winter weather regimes can be incorporated into subseasonal forecasts to predict peak electricity demand ?? . He looks at the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), deemed especially vulnerable to winter threats to electricity supply over the next decade. Salient is thrilled to have Jason on board to help integrate weather regime analysis into our subseasonal forecasting models. Read here: https://lnkd.in/eMCGnz8R #ForecastFurther

Lots of use cases for probabilistic S2S (subseasonal-to-seasonal) weather forecasts emerged from the AWS Clean Energy Accelerator: - shipping optimization - hedging and energy procurement strategies - hydro, wind, and solar generation forecasting - power and gas trading - equipment maintenance scheduling ... and more. These are familiar use cases, but we loved the opportunity to dig deeper with AWS and energy corporate partners during the London-based sprint. Thanks for hosting, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and for the great photo. Bonus points for all who spy Salient's CTO Karl Critz in the picture...
