“It’s hard to believe that two decades have passed and we’re still living out our Mission by the way we care for our patients and the way we care for each other. I felt it 20 years ago when I first started at Mercy and Michael feels it now,” said Maggie. https://bit.ly/4eJH0zo

Jennifer made the decision to pursue surgical weight loss after her daughter was born. "When I was pregnant, my blood sugar quickly spiraled out of control. After my daughter was born, it got better but was still way too high. I also realized at this point that if I kept going the way that I was going, I wouldn't be around to see my daughter grow up. I wouldn't be able to play with her or coach her teams. I didn't want that for either of us." she said. After losing 40 pounds in the first 7 weeks after surgery, she is seeing noticeable changes. "My clothes are too big; my seat belt fits more comfortably; my skin is clearer; my hair doesn't get as greasy; I don't get winded while walking...just to name a few. But the big thing for me is realizing just how much I ate before." For anyone considering weight loss surgery, she would offer them some advice. "Surgery is not an easy out. It's really hard. If you're not willing to do the work, it's not for you. But if you're ready to work hard and be consistent, then run, don't walk." Meet Kaitlin, MS, CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist with Inpatient Rehabilitation at Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, and our Colleague of the Month! Katlin was nominated because “Katie is deserving of this title for many reasons. She is an excellent clinician who manages diagnoses of all kinds with the same precision each time.” Her nomination noted that Katie is committed to all patients, but that she holds a special empathy for those who come in with no family or financial support. It was also noted that Katie is recognized often in patient experience comments as a caregiver who is compassionate with patients and families and provides them with the education they need.
