Saint Luke's recently celebrated the impact, contributions, commitments, and legacies of our Endowed Chairs and Professorships and honored the donors who fund these positions. Saint Luke’s Endowed Chairs are tackling some of the most challenging issues facing our industry and the most critical health concerns facing our families, co-workers, neighbors, and friends. Through their support, our donors are helping advance the future of medicine, stop devastating illnesses, and create lasting change that will improve people’s lives. This year’s reception formally welcomed Sreeni Jonnalagadda, MD, as the Reynolds Family Endowed Professorship in Gastroenterology to this prestigious group. #TeamSaintLukes ??

Congratulations to Holly, a critical care and anesthesia nurse practitioner at Saint Luke's, for being honored with the 2024 Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Excellence Award. The Excellence Award is given to an APP who has more than five years of experience and demonstrates exceptional care of their patients and co-workers. Holly manages other APPs, co-directs the APP Fellowship Program, and organizes social gatherings and team-building activities. She also educates new APPs by teaching classes at Rockhurst University. “I have never met a manager or even had a co-worker more dedicated to her team or her patients,” her nominator said. “Saint Luke’s should be proud to have Holly on their team. People like her are one in a million.” Thank you, Holly, for all you do! #TeamSaintLukes ??

Sean Nix, trauma medical director at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, recalls always having an interest in science. When he was young, one of his favorite gifts was a chemistry set. Having family who worked in health care, he saw firsthand examples of how he could give back. In 1991, while serving in the Marine Corps, Dr. Nix realized that he wanted to help his community through medicine. “I chose trauma surgery because it is a challenge,” Dr. Nix said. “I wanted to, hopefully, help patients through those terrible moments that we see in the field of trauma. I see it as giving them a second chance at life.” This year, Dr. Nix will share his trauma care knowledge at the Stephen R. Hall, MD, Trauma Symposium, where his lecture will focus on trauma survivorship. “It's why we do what we do,” Dr. Nix said. “I’ll speak on the larger outcomes of trauma care in the United States.” The Stephen R. Hall, MD, Trauma Symposium honors the late Dr. Stephen R. Hall, an orthopedic surgeon who passed in a bike accident in 1987. The symposium aims to enhance trauma care knowledge, facilitate regional networking, and share evidence-based practices for trauma patient care. Learn more and register: https://heyor.ca/w3ARmj
