Saiful Bouquet is pleased to announce that the AC + Moxy Hotels project has been awarded Best Residential/Hospitality Project in Southern California by the Engineering News-Record (ENR). Rising 37 stories and 525 feet above Downtown Los Angeles, this concrete mixed-use tower includes two select-service hotels with 727 guestrooms, 8,600 SF of restaurant and retail space, and 7,200 SF of conference areas. Designed by Gensler and developed by Lightstone, the project also features a rooftop pool deck, sky lobbies, and a seven-story parking podium. The seismic structural design employed a state-of-the-art performance-based seismic design approach, which involved advanced nonlinear earthquake time-history seismic analysis and independent peer review to ensure optimal safety and resilience. Suffolk Construction was the GC and Largo Concrete, Inc. was the concrete sub. Saiful Bouquet, in collaboration with Gensler, celebrated the recent Topping Off of the Friendship Foundation’s new campus in Redondo Beach. This cutting-edge, 62,000-square-foot facility prioritizes inclusivity, providing a safe and welcoming environment with various educational and therapeutic programs for special needs students of all ages and their families. To support the innovative architectural design, Saiful Bouquet explored different structural systems, including a steel construction scheme with braced frames and a concrete flat plate scheme with concrete shear walls. Steel construction was selected to accommodate the unique design featuring a spirally sloped roof and long cantilever overhangs, all under the jurisdiction of the California Division of State Architect (DSA). Today marks the groundbreaking of Lulu's Place, a transformative athletic and educational complex near LAX in Westchester, bringing together world-class facilities for academics, athletics, and wellness, with Mayor Karen Bass, Traci Park, Holly J. Mitchell, Nick Melvoin, and Archdiocese of Los Angeles joining us at the event. Spanning 30 acres, the campus will support underserved youth and enrich the surrounding Los Angeles through shared amenities and experiences across sports facilities, open plazas, and recreational areas, with a landscape design that enriches publicly accessible parks, plazas, and trails for the enjoyment of all. Saiful Bouquet had the opportunity to witness the steel topping of the 135,000 sf Robert Day Sciences Center at Claremont McKenna College. Designed by the visionary architects at BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group, this 'hashtag-shaped' building is set to be exceptional, reflecting the college's dedication to innovation. Featuring floor-to-ceiling glass facades and indoor terraces, the building's design fosters dynamic interactions across disciplines and the campus, while providing a visually stunning and functional space filled with natural light. ? Faced with the exciting challenge of limited vertical overlap between floors, long-span floors (up to 52' clear), stringent vibration criteria to meet (2,000 mips), and the need to have a robust seismic design given its proximity to some of the most active seismic faults, our team developed a creative structural solution consisting of a hybrid scheme involving steel construction and concrete shear walls for seismic bracing. A comprehensive deformation compatibility analysis was also performed to ensure the proper design of the steel trusses. ? Collaborating with BIG on this unique project has been a truly wonderful experience for our team. BIG LA celebrates the topping out of one of its first projects, the Claremont McKenna College Robert Day Sciences Center! ???? Swing by our Santa Monica studio to meet the BIG LA team and explore future collaborations! The 135,000 sq ft Sciences Center will be home to the liberal arts school’s next-generation Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences - a powerful, multi-disciplinary, computational approach to advance gene, brain and climate knowledge. The structure is designed as stacks of paired volumes, or rectangular ‘blocks’ - two per floor - with each pair rotated 45 degrees from the floor below. On the interior, the volumes are expressed as stacked trusses with floor-to-ceiling glass partitions providing visibility between spaces. The rotation of each floor creates a central sky-lit atrium at the heart of the building that provides direct views into classrooms and research spaces from all levels. Roughly 9,000 sq ft of solar panels on the roof will provide 200-230 megawatt hours of energy production per year. The project is aiming for LEED Gold and is expected to complete in 2025. Our team recently celebrated a significant milestone in the construction of the new?Keck Medicine of USC?Office Building with a structural steel topping-out ceremony.?This cutting-edge facility, a collaboration between?Saiful Bouquet Structural Engineers,?SmithGroup, and?Turner Construction Company, is designed to meet modern medical needs while prioritizing sustainable design.?Located on a critical corner in the heart of the medical and research district near Huntington Hospital, this four-level, 110,000 GSF building with three subterranean parking levels employs steel construction with lightweight concrete fill over a metal deck supported by steel beams and columns. Perimeter moment frames use proprietary SidePlate connections to ensure structural resilience while providing robust seismic bracing for the structure. Its unique precast concrete fa?ade, landscaped Plaza level, and strategic orientation not only provide a welcoming entry experience with ample shade for patients but also enhance visibility and traffic safety at the busy intersection for the Pasadena community. The University of Southern California Keck Medical Office Building, Pasadena, is scheduled for completion in 2025 and aims for LEED Platinum certification.
