Every time I meet one of Unshackled's portfolio founders, I walk away inspired. Tejas Agarwal is no exception. He’s the founder of Sahay AI, but his entrepreneurial drive and engineering curiosity go way back. Growing up in India, Tejas saw firsthand the effort his parents made to support his education. He was always an excellent student, especially in computer science, but when he got to university, he couldn’t secure a spot in the CS program. Instead, he pursued electrical engineering, a change that opened new doors. He joined his university’s drone club, competing internationally and placing second worldwide. A scholarship program in Canada introduced him to autonomous systems, and after watching Coursera drone lectures by UPenn faculty, he was inspired to pursue a master’s abroad. After getting admitted to UPenn, COVID hit. He then decided to defer his acceptance and built RH Biotech, a supply chain company for sanitizers. Tejas automated the business using Python and QR-based systems, which ultimately helped fund his education. In 2023, after learning about devastating train derailments (like the Ohio East Palestine disaster), he realized how outdated inspections were; 90% still done visually, with over 50% of inspectors underperforming. Now, he is building automated inspection systems for rail infrastructure to prevent derailments, protect the environment, improve efficiency, and optimize resources. Tejas story is an example of how staying resourceful, persistent and adaptable can take you far. Excited to see where he takes Sahay AI next! Are you a technical founder building in the US?
