Zabar Ya Basa Project is a community-based forestry conservation initiative in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This project addresses the challenges of poverty and deforestation across 280,000 hectares of virgin forest and peatlands. It focuses on improving livelihoods, biodiversity protection, and carbon sequestration through reforestation efforts. Key features include: Community Empowerment: Local farmers and fishermen in the Bath and Ous basin are trained in agroforestry techniques and sustainable land management. Biodiversity Conservation: The project encourages planting indigenous trees, which attract caterpillar larvae, a valuable local delicacy, bolstering food security. Economic Development: Microfinance banks enable farmers to invest in sustainable practices and diversify income sources.
