SAGE applauds the Department of Defense's decision to grant honorable discharges to 800 veterans expelled under the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) policy. This is a vital step toward justice for LGBTQ+ service members whose service was cut short due to their identity. This decision restores access to benefits, healthcare, and recognition long denied to these veterans. However, many others still face challenges in upgrading their discharge statuses. We urge the DoD to continue this work and support all LGBTQ+ veterans in reclaiming their dignity. SAGE has been actively exploring an LGBTQ+ elder housing model to create two of the first LGBTQ+-welcoming elder housing developments: Stonewall House and Crotona Pride House.
