If you wear green every day, does that make every day St. Patrick's Day?

When you’re creating a feedback culture on your team, you have to start with telling people how important feedback is. Maybe you ask for it first: “We want your feedback.” Great! The problem with only asking once is that it becomes a drop in the cup of all their past feedback experiences from their parents, bosses, coaches, teachers, and so on. How did those authority figures approach feedback? Was it for growth or for punishment? Was it to help, or harm? That’s what you’re up against, because everyone that joins your team comes preprogrammed with expectations, fears, and preconceived notions on what it means to give and get feedback in a professional setting: some healthy, some, not so much. BUT—say it again? That’s another droplet. And again? That’s another one. If you keep saying it and reminding your team that it’s safe to give and get feedback, all of a sudden the glass gets fuller, starts to overflow, and all those past negative experiences with feedback get displaced. Leaving you with a culture where they don’t only hear important feedback is, but they start believing it too.

In the past two years, we’ve had countless conversations about perks—free t-shirts, snacks, team lunches. And while those things are fun, they aren’t culture. Culture is your people. It’s how they treat each other, how they communicate, and how they live out your values within your walls. It’s the foundation that makes your organization what it is. Perks? They’re meant to amplify that culture, not replace it. Because no amount of free snacks can fix a culture where people don’t feel valued or connected. Let’s reframe the conversation: build a strong culture first. Then let the perks enhance what’s already great. ??? And don’t get us wrong—we love icing just as much as the next person… but eat too much and you’ll get a belly ache (speaking from experience ??).

That's a wrap on Fat Bear Week! This year, we created a free teambuilding toolkit for teams to bring the quirkiest week alive for their teams: Fat Bear Week. It was a week of friendly competition, fun activities, and just general fun for their teams as they rooted on the chonky bears in Katmai National Park! Bringing your team together doesn't have to be hard. In fact, it can be as easy as playing a bear themed jeopardy game, putting a puzzle together, or sipping tasty berry smoothies together. We loved hearing all the ways teams celebrated Fat Bear Week and we can't wait to see what new shenanigans we can get in next year. Until then, join our newsletter to be in the know on any future toolkits we roll out. We've got a few more ideas up our paws. ?? P.S. Grazer may be on the throne this year, but we can't wait to see Gully come for the gold next year!
