Have you heard of Creative February??Established in 2014 by artist Takeyce Walter, it’s a month-long initiative that encourages creating art daily throughout February. Takeyce’s gift to herself of producing a painting every day that February inspired a movement among artists and admirers across the country. Although today is the last day of February, Sage Eldercare has celebrated creativity throughout the month. In fact, we promote creativity and creative wellness all year round. A recent report from the World Health Organization reveals that engaging in the arts provides numerous health benefits, including helping manage conditions like dementia, anxiety, and depression. This study assessed various forms of arts engagement, from active participation, such as creating art, to passive involvement, including attending cultural events or viewing art. At Sage and The Hummingbird Project Therapeutic Activity Program, we focus on the whole person’s quality of life, addressing far more than physical wellness. Sage employees provide life-enhancing services to clients by stimulating seven domains of wellness, one of which is creativity. Sage Personal Care Assistants regularly engage clients in traditional arts and crafts and activities that spark creativity. This includes museum visits that allow clients to appreciate art. Earlier this week, in our latest blog, we introduced Carol, a Sage client living with memory loss who recently rediscovered her passion for swimming. Her journey continues to inspire us. Many ask us how Sage and The Hummingbird Project can customize a care plan that adapts to each client’s interests and needs. For Carol, we learned about her connection to swimming from her youth, and with her input and the family’s. We ventured that Carol’s swimming memories contained hidden power to unlock a world now hidden.?
