In a significant move, the SEC announced that seven public companies have agreed to pay over $3 million in penalties for using employment, separation, and other agreements that impeded whistleblowers from reporting potential misconduct. These agreements required employees to waive their right to whistleblower awards, violating Rule 21F-17(a), which protects individuals who report securities law violations to the SEC.
