Here’s a quick recap of the past few days for Safety Straw: Sunday-Wednesday: We attended the Bar & Restaurant Expo in Las Vegas, where we connected with bar owners from across the country. It was incredible to share our mission and explore potential future partnerships to bring Safety Straw into bars and restaurants nationwide. Wednesday-Thursday: After a long flight and a few hours of sleep, we were back at Michigan State University where our Chief of Engineering, Jonathan Hakim led our prototype development day. Watching our product take shape in real-time was beyond exciting for our team. Thursday afternoon: A special lunch with Michigan State University President, Kevin Guskiewicz. Thanks to Michigan State University – Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation we had the opportunity to sit down with him and share the mission behind Safety Straw—why we do what we do and how our product is making a difference. Then, it was back to the lab! ?? Now, we’re gearing up for our big pitch at BNVC this week. Fifteen startups have been named semifinalists in the 2025 Burgess New Venture Challenge, the premier pitch competition for student venturers at Michigan State University. Burgess NVC, hosted by the Michigan State University – Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, enhances the probability of success for undergraduate and graduate student venturers by providing mentoring and guidance, connections to Michigan's entrepreneurial ecosystem and opportunities for engagement and investment. This year’s startups represent eight academic colleges and over a dozen disciplines of study, competing for more than $50,000 in prizes on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center Center in East Lansing, MI. https://lnkd.in/gZWxfjya

THE TEAM... Here at Safety Straw, we'd like to formally introduce the people that have been working hard to become the standard of nightlife safety. Jack Rushlow: Co-Founder Jack is a current Michigan State University student studying Organizational Communication, with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He also is a full-time Capital Market Strategist at Benzinga (2 years), a financial news and media company. Zachary Ziemba: Co-Founder Zak holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University and has co-founded innovative ventures such as 313 Bets, Olympus Dining Solutions, and of course: Safety Straw. With experience as a current Operations Manager at Amazon, he has exceeded performance expectations and drove sustainability initiatives. Jonathan Hakim: Chief of Engineering Jon is currently earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace. As Chief of Engineering, he is designing the manufacturing process for Safety Straw and has prior experience developing innovative mechanical solutions at Let’s Roll Store, Nexteer Automotive, PSG Blackmer a Dover Company, and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). Marcy Creevy: Chief Marketing Officer Marcy is a current MSU student, pursuing a Bachelors and Masters degree concurrently. She has grown a following of 310k and gained marketing experience with companies such as Gentex Corporation, Eric Thomas & Associates LLC, and Barstool Sports. Her work has included developing content for multimillion-dollar brands, and showcasing on-camera talent as a contestant on a reality show. We are extremely grateful to have such a passionate team.?One problem, one solution: Safety Straw.
