Princeton University researchers have created the first-ever complete brain map of an adult fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster). They used AI and human collaboration to map 139,000 neurons and tens of millions of connections, producing a detailed “Google Map” of the brain. The connectome was generated from 21 million images, aiding the study of brain functions and neurological disorders. Google is using AI to turn documents, notes, and other sources into a "lively" audio discussion featuring two AI hosts. The feature, dubbed Audio Overviews, launches in NotebookLM today. You can try it by uploading work into a new or existing Notebook. Then, open the Notebook guide and click the Generate button to instantly spin up a podcast-style discussion about the material. Google demos the technology by creating an Audio Overview of the feature's press release. SpaceX made history with the Polaris Dawn crew’s first-ever private spacewalk, conducted 458 miles above Earth on September 12. German startup Polaris Aerospace plans to flight-test the world’s first aerospike engine-powered aircraft in September. Following a crash with its earlier demonstrator, MIRA I, the new models, MIRA II and III, have larger wing areas and feature the AS-1 aerospike engine. Unlike traditional bell nozzles, Aerospike engines maintain efficiency across varying altitudes, making them ideal for single-stage-to-orbit spaceplanes.
