Today, we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) creates and supports comprehensive, cost-effective responses to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. Up for renewal every five years, each VAWA reauthorization has built on existing protections and programs to better meet the needs of survivors. As we honor this milestone, we also reaffirm our commitment to continue the work to provide essential tools and support to help survivors of domestic violence so they can live their lives free of abuse. Our kiddos in shelter are heading back to school in style thanks to our friends at Origin Bank and all of you who donated supplies! The kids enjoyed a fun back to school bash with games, treats, and some amazing new school supplies. Thank you for always ensuring they have everything they need for a successful school year!

Please help us in giving a warm welcome to our newest attorney, Cailin Freeman! Prior to SafeHaven, Cailin worked in child advocacy with family law courts in Washington and California for over 15 years, including serving as Vice President of Programs for Voices for Children in San Diego. Cailin earned her B.A. from Western Washington University and her J.D. from California Western School of Law. Hear from Cailin: “SafeHaven is an incredible organization, so I jumped at the chance to make a positive impact. I am looking forward to providing guidance and support to those that need legal help during a very stressful and challenging time. It is a privilege to work in this role, and I am excited to go to work every day.”

Earlier this week a few of our kiddos in shelter had the chance to visit the MLB All Star Village in Arlington! ?????? They had a blast playing games and even got to check out the World Series trophy our friends at the Texas Rangers Baseball Club brought home last season! Thank you for your support in keeping these kiddos and their families safe, AND ensuring they can still make FUN memories during their stay with us.
