Safe Kids AI

This is the power that education has. In two pilot programs, we saw that technology can inspire kindness and help cultivate better habits online. Safe Kids AI demonstrated its ability to turn everyday digital interactions into opportunities for growth. Here’s what we achieved: ?? 57% of students revised their messages to be kinder. With just 12 seconds on average to reflect, students learned to pause, rethink and choose a more positive path. ?? Teachers gained 1,800 minutes of instructional time back. ?? 58% fewer attempts to view negative content. These statistics reflect the powerful impact Safe Kids AI has on shaping healthier online habits for students. We’re not just stating facts, we’re creating stories: ??? We have helped stop a potential school shooting, and multiple suicide attempts. If we did that in a few schools, imagine what we could do in over 1000.

Let’s start off with a simple comparison. A family of four is sitting around a campfire. The youngest boy, Bob, is amazed by the fire. What a magnificent thing—so hot, providing warmth and comfort, and so elegantly red-orange. All of a sudden, an intrusive thought comes up…I wonder what it feels like. I want to touch the fire. As Bob reaches for the fire, his mom and dad quickly pull him back and tell him not to touch it without telling him what would happen if he did. Unfortunately, however, his curiosity overpowered him, and the second his parents turned away, he touched the fire and got burned. Now, imagine that same scenario, but instead of the parents pulling Bob away without context, they tell him ?????? he shouldn’t touch it. He truly understood ??????, so he didn’t feel the pull to touch the fire when his parents turned away. The vast majority of content filtering systems used in school districts such as Fairfax County Public Schools block content without telling the students ?????? it’s harmful. As a result, when given the freedom, students tend to revert to the harmful content they shouldn’t be doing on the internet. Like the parents in the second scenario, we take a similar approach by helping the students understand WHY what they’re searching is harmful so they understand the impact it may have on them. Through this implementation, students and parents can more easily establish greater trust, and students can make better decisions when given another chance. That is Safe Kids.
