Did you know the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) received over 400,000 calls about hazardous items in 2023? Many of these poisonings were accidental — and preventable with the right precautions. Here are five common household dangers to watch out for: ??Sweet food items - Xylitol, found in sugarless gum, candies, and baked goods, is toxic to dogs. ??Human drugs - NSAIDs, acetaminophen, and antidepressants can cause severe health issues. ??Flowers - Lilies are especially lethal to cats. ??Chocolate - Dark chocolate and baker’s chocolate are more dangerous to animals than other types. ??Fertilizers and pest control - These products often contain chemicals harmful to pets. This week is a reminder that awareness saves lives. By learning to avoid toxic products and storing them safely, we can protect our pets and reduce accidents. This week and every week, let’s work to protect the animals in our community ??
