A 100-year-old school is transformed! The modernization of Franklin Elementary STEAM Magnet school in San Diego was celebrated last week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by SRA and the project team, Franklin’s families and students, and leaders from San Diego Unified School District and the City Council. Blending history with innovation, this renovation preserves the campus’ legacy while creating new, inspiring spaces for future generations. View a few ribbon cutting photos here - and stay tuned for before-and-afters of this SRA project as we wrap up the final photo shoots soon! What a weekend! Thank you to everyone who stopped by SRA’s office during Open House San Diego 2025 (organized by San Diego Architectural Foundation (SDAF). We loved sharing the story behind 32+ years of architectural projects and connecting with other architecture enthusiasts in our community. Take a look at these event photos, and we hope to see everyone again at next year’s OHSD. #OHSD2025 #SanDiegoArchitecture #MissionHillsSD #ArchitectLife

Downtown San Diego will soon have a new park! As part of a larger effort to create more greenways and community gathering areas downtown, East Village Green will include a two-story community center, a central lawn, a children’s playground, an interactive water feature, community art spaces, and an off-leash dog park. In collaboration with Civic San Diego and the The City of San Diego, construction is well under way and on track to finish by the end of this year. We can’t wait for the community downtown to enjoy this new park designed by OJB Landscape Architecture and Safdie Rabines Architects. SRA is honored to be part of the Bay to Park Paseo, a new urban walking back that connects San Diego Bay with Balboa Park. Those who have followed our social media this past year have seen our design of a butterfly atop the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, which adds an element of nature into the downtown landscape and brings attention to a threatened species of butterfly that is native to our region. ? Today, we celebrate that Bay to Park Paseo has been recognized by the Downtown San Diego Partnership’s Create the Future Awards. The Paseo is noted for bringing Cultural Vitality to downtown through enhancement of public spaces and placemaking with art, activations, and design. Learn more: BaytoParkPaseo.org

Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 9! As part of Open House San Diego (organized by SDArchitecture) SRA will open our Mission Hills office to the public for one afternoon only. Visit us for a look at our unique location in a building that once housed a bank (fun fact: a conference room sits where the bank’s drive-through used to be, and you’ll never guess where the ATM and vaults were located). ? Join us for this inside look at where we work, meet our team and chat about architecture and all things San Diego, and enjoy refreshments and snacks while viewing our gallery of projects. We hope to see you there!? ? Date: Sunday, March 9 from 1-4PM ? Where: 925 Fort Stockton Drive, San Diego, CA 92103

SRA enjoyed exhibiting at San Diego Unified School District’s first-ever “Meet the Architects†event earlier this week. A big thanks to everyone who stopped by our table to chat with Eric and Dylan about SRA’s K-12 projects, and great to see many familiar faces! If you didn’t have the opportunity to attend this event, we invite you to visit our office on March 9 when Safdie Rabines Architects opens the office’s doors to the public for just one day as part of Open House San Diego 2025. Stay tuned to SDArchitecture and SRA’s social media to learn more.
