I had a wonderful time in Chicago speaking at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago The Sadie Collective Exploring Career Pathways for students throughout the state of Illinois who are interested in exploring careers in economics. As the featured fireside I was proud to share with them my perspectives on leadership and serving your nation as an appointee, the pride I have in my legacy and time at the U.S. Small Business Administration and what is required for our leaders, from any party, as they pursue careers that serve their nation. Thank you Kristen Broady, Ph.D. for the invitation to join you and your incredible team. See you all next week!

Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program| Rising Second-Year Student at Spelman College| Economics Major |
Last month, I had the incredible, full-circle opportunity to speak on a panel at The Sadie Collective 5th Annual Exploring Pathways in Economics at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Just two years ago, I attended this very event as a high school senior, weighing my college decision. It was here that I discovered Spelman’s Economics Department—and I haven't looked back since! Returning this year to speak to students from my alma mater, Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy High School, as well as other inner-city high school students, was an experience that filled my heart. Sharing insights on pathways in economics and mentorship practices felt deeply rewarding. Thank you to the Chicago Fed for hosting such an impactful event and to the Sadie Collective for believing in and inspiring young Black women like myself. Sitting on a panel with Quentin Johnson, Brianna Alderman, Jordan Brown, and Sariya Stowers was a powerful experience; I learned from their insights while sharing my own. #SadieCollective #ChicagoFed #DiversityInEconomics

Lead Business Development Specialist, The Cadmus Group | International Development | Economics | Early Career
OCTOBER HIGHLIGHTS ?? This month has been a busy yet productive time of networking! I have learned extensively through several conferences and events focused on #Economics, #InternationalAffairs, #Development, and #Africa: 1. Earlier this month I was able to travel to #Chicago for the first time to attend the 5th Annual Economic Career Pathways Conference with The Sadie Collective and Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. This conference focuses on the economics, #finance, #policy, and #datascience spaces, where we heard from leaders in economics and related fields about their work and their career journeys. Special thank you to Bola Olaniyan, Emily Gullickson, Kristen Broady, Ph.D., Anna Paulson, Ryan Perry, and all whom played an instrumental role toward the conference's success! 2. Major thanks to AfriCatalyst for hosting a series of side sessions here in #DC alongside The World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings. On October 22nd, the Alliance of African Multilateral Financial Institutions and African Union convened a high-level side event themed “The Role of African Multilateral Financial Institutions in Catalyzing Sustainable Economic Development in Africa: Opportunities and Challenges.” On October 24th, in collaboration with UNDP Africa, The Brookings Institution African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) and Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) organized an engaging side event on "Pathways to Tackling Africa’s Debt Crisis through Improved Credit Ratings." These collective sessions focused on expanding #Africa’s access to affordable financing and improved sovereign credit ratings. 3. In #NewYork I was able to join the Permanent Mission of Eritrea to the United Nations side event on the margins of #ILW2024 and the 125th Anniversary of Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) titled "Inter-State Arbitration as a Catalyst for Peace and Justice: Insights from Eritrea's Landmark Cases". Eritrea's Minister of Justice HE fawzia hashim provided the keynote address followed by panel discussions with Professor Brilmayer and Deputy Secretary-General Garth Schofield facilitated by Ambassador Sophia Tesfamariam. This event spotlighted Eritrea's unwavering commitment to peace and justice through adherence to its treaty obligations and international law. 4. While in New York, I was able to attend the 21st Annual Columbia Africa Conference hosted by the Columbia University Africa Business Organization. This student-led collaboration provided a forum for meaningful engagement and thought-provoking discussions with an impressive lineup of speakers from across the #African continent focused on numerous industries including #economics, fashion, technology, sports, and energy, that left us with a renewed sense of hope and inspiration to play a part towards Africa’s success. There is a clear interconnectedness in these spaces, and I am excited to implement on what I have learned! #InternationalAffairs #Economics #Career
