Hallmarks of our success over the last 20 years include a 2012 Impact study demonstrating long-term positive impacts in the lives of our participants, strong financial health, two successful leadership transitions, and several major awards including the 2020 Brooklyn Community Foundation Spark Prize, 2013 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House, and the 2010 New York Times Gold Prize for Overall Management Excellence.

This past Saturday our 2024-2025 ELLA Fellowship Cohort met for the first time! ?? ?? The ELLA Fellowship — named for social activist Ella Baker — stands for Engage, Learn, Lead and Act. It’s a year-long program offering in-depth project development experience as Fellows bring to life a meaningful, ambitious social justice project in their community. ? Here are some examples from over the years: ?? Finn Schubert’s project from 2009 called “Abortion Support Network”, which trained a core group of peer advocates in college to provide information about reproductive health, as well as emotional support for women seeking an abortion. ?? Rosa Vasquez’s project from 2018 called “Dreams over Fear” which civically engaged undocumented students to embrace their undocumented identity and resist the unjust immigration system. ?? Jordan Warner’s project from 2023 called “Thrift Shop Thursday”, an initiative to raise awareness of the environmental impact of fast fashion. Follow this space to see what projects emerge from our inspiring ELLAs this year! ??

We’ve been asking members of our #NashFam to nominate Nasher alums you’d like us to highlight. We got so many incredible responses and are excited to share each one with you. ?? ?? Meet Faratoluwa Aluko (she/her)! Faratoluwa is originally from Nigeria, now residing in Newark, NJ. She’s a freshman at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, where she is pursuing a degree in engineering with the goal of becoming a Civil Engineer. She is passionate about giving back to underdeveloped communities, particularly in Nigeria. In her free time, she enjoys 3D design and braiding hair. Faratoluwa participated in Siblinghood Academy in 2022 and NashU in 2023. Her nominator, Ogunmola said this when nominating her, “I am nominating Faratoluwa because she helped me and other people in high school. She was always looking out for me like a big sister and she introduced me to Sadie Nash.” ? Faratoluwa also left this message for Nashers, “Make the most of every opportunity, challenge, and moment at SADIE NASH. Get involved, support each other, and always push yourself to grow. Being a NASHER means you're part of a family that supports you long after you leave. Stay curious, stay focused, and keep aiming for greatness. ” ?? Do you know someone we should spotlight? ?? Nominate them! Fill out the nomination form in our bio so we can uplift them and their work and send some SNLP swag their way. ??
