We're on the lookout for community scientists! Each year, we monitor American, English, and Siberian elms for Dutch elm disease (DED), a deadly fungal disease that devastated the elm population in much of Europe and North America. We've partnered with City of Sacramento Urban Forestry to train community scientists to monitor these trees and help prevent the spread of DED. To help us take care of our vulnerable elm population, register for our upcoming training webinar at https://bit.ly/step25pt1

Today is a tree trifecta: International Day of Forests, World Wood Day and World Planting Day! The United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization is celebrating this year as “Forests and Food” to highlight how important forests are to feeding humans around the world.? ? Though we Sacramentans often treasure our leafy friends for their cooling shade in the Summer heat, we also enjoy wonderful gift bags of citrus from friends and neighbors in these Winter months ??, and @soil_born_farms even has a program for fruit donations for local food assistance. Plus, healthy forests are home to crucial pollinators for our farmers and play a key role in our freshwater supply.? And how better to celebrate World Wood Day than using locally grown lumber from Urban Wood Rescue for your next project or World Planting Day by sponsoring a tree planting event in your neighborhood?? #sacramento #trees #ForestDay #IntlForestDay #WorldWoodDay

Today marks the 43rd birthday of the Sacramento Tree Foundation! ?????? For over 40 years, the Tree Foundation has stewarded the urban forest from seed to slab—from harvesting acorns in the fall, to planting seedlings, caring for our mature tree canopy, and salvaging fallen trees as urban lumber. With the help of our dedicated volunteers and supporters, we’ve planted over 1.5 million trees throughout the region. With your continued support, we intend to keep cultivating beautiful green spaces that nurture our health, uplift our spirits, and continue our legacy as the City of Trees.
