It's Book of Dreams season! Book of Dreams is The Sacramento Bee's annual charitable effort where the community lets them know what individuals and organizations could use a helping hand by way of funding at year-end. The Sacramento Bee highlights 10 stories and offers opportunities for the community to donate money to those causes. "Last year, you helped a hospital buy comforting swings for preterm babies, veterans repair their homes, a dog rescue group pay vet bills and expand literacy – reading for students, food literacy for kids and cooking classes for seniors," Scott Lebar at the Sacramento Bee shared. Share causes to support by nominating using the form on this page by October 25:

Days after landfall, millions of people across the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida are still reeling from the heartbreak left behind by Hurricane Helene. Donations help offset the cost of the extraordinary response services that are required during and following these emergencies. Like you, our thoughts are with the communities affected by this emergency. We are always heartened by the Sacramento region’s response to crises and, as ever, we appreciate your generosity. Community foundations are uniquely equipped to respond when emergencies strike; each has deep connections within the community it serves and relationships with the organizations that make an impact — during times of crisis and recovery. We've compiled a list of community foundation partners across the country that have activated response efforts. Visit our website to learn more: Donors with Donor Advised Funds at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation or Yolo Community Foundation can recommend grants through the donor portal or by contacting us.

Last week, many of our team had the privilege of attending Be.Bold., a conference led by the community advocates at Everyday Impact Consulting. This year's theme? Rest. And the reason behind it is powerful: rest isn't just a break—it's a necessity. As many speakers emphasized, rest allows us to recharge, refocus, and return to our work with the clarity and energy needed to fuel long-lasting, meaningful change. "The overall theme of rest and mental health is something we all think about, but at Be.Bold. the focus was intentional," shared our Senior Director of Philanthropy, Chelsea Fahr. "It was great to be in a space where we could prioritize that." A huge shout-out to the organizers, including our very own Niva Flor and Anthony Taula-Lieras. We hope they’re embracing the spirit of the event and taking time to rest themselves! Now we welcome you to consider: How do you find rest? And how can you create space for rest in the lives of those around you?

Motivational. Supportive. Community. Our senior leadership team had the honor of attending the League of California Community Foundations (LCCF)'s 2024 Statewide Conference in Fresno this week! LCCF's 2024 Statewide Conference brought staff of all 40 League-affiliated community foundations across the state together for two days of expert-led workshops, peer discussions, and networking opportunities. "Loved meeting fellow community foundation leaders throughout the state to learn from their successes and borrow ideas to build upon to strengthen our region!" shared our Chief Philanthropy Officer, Kelly Siefkin, CFRE. The Sacramento Region Community Foundation is a proud member of the League of California Community Foundations, which builds and strengthens California’s communities by fostering collaboration and learning among the state’s community foundations. While I’ve been serving in the nonprofit sector for 24 years, community foundations just feel different. Because they are different. I’ve loved the past 18 months at Sacramento Region Community Foundation and the time this week at League of California Community Foundations’ conference left me happier and wanting even more! Thank you to the peers I met who let me grill them about endowments and fund minimus and investment pools and worried with me about community needs and advisor engagement and unrestricted funds. I left Fresno feeling inspired and challenged by those who get me and want to see our state thrive. I can’t wait to see you all again! Thanks for hosting us Central Valley Community Foundation.

This year Cultivate will offer ongoing learning and support for local fundraisers of color through coaching and community. Cultivate Coaching will provide a deep dive into nonprofit capacity building with one-on-one coaching sessions. Members of the Coaching cohort must apply, commit to monthly check-ins with coaches, and attend presentations covering topics to help them achieve their goals. Cultivate Community is open to all Cultivators, new and old, and will be an opportunity for fundraisers of color to meet, network, and collaborate with one another at convenings and happy hours.
