This collaborative event brought together over 20 aviation and business leaders to explore strategies for expanding SMF's reach and attracting more travelers to our region. Over 20 air service, business and public sector partners were in attendance to learn about industry trends, SMF terminal and concourse developments and strategic initiatives, discussion on strategies to support a direct flight to Germany and a keynote presentation from Air Canada’s Director of North American Planning on the airline’s expansion plans. At SMF, passenger and employee safety is our top priority. We are proud to have a dedicated Airport Safety and Risk team, led by Ron Reichel, C.M., ACE (Airport Safety and Risk Manager), Jamie Burton (Airport Operations Officer), Jennifer Cowell (Safety Specialist), and Cindy Martinez (Safety Technician). This team plays a crucial role in exceeding safety standards through proactive initiatives and collaboration. They oversee the FAA's Safety Management System (SMS) requirements, ensuring a comprehensive approach to mitigating risks before incidents occur. We are honored to be recognized as a leader in aviation safety. SMF is among the first airports to fully implement the FAA's SMS program and is on track to be the first U.S. airport with a fully sanctioned FAA-compliant SMS.
