The Sacramento region saw a sharp rise in remote work starting in 2020. While many people have returned in person, the percentage of those working from home is still much higher than pre-COVID. Given this shift, the region saw a sharp decrease in the miles traveled by vehicles. Now, this has started to increase, but still sits lower than pre-pandemic levels. Access to remote work is not shared by everyone. In the area, high-income households are more likely to work from home compared to households of low-income workers – a divide that is growing.
