Meet this month's Hunger Hero, Sharina Kumar. Sharina is a dedicated volunteer who's logged a total of 39 hours with us! We're so thankful for her help and support for our community. Q: How did you start volunteering here at SFBFS? A: "I learned about volunteering at Sacramento Food Bank from my nutrition class at Sacramento City College. I did not know how many people within the United States were facing hunger, and it was something that I was interested in doing." Q: What’s your favorite thing about volunteering? A: "My favorite thing about volunteering is feeling like I am making a difference even if I am only one person. I also love meeting other people who decided to volunteer. There are so many different types of produce and tasks to do that always keeps it interesting." Q: What motivates you to give back to the community? A: "Helping others in need motivates me to give back to the community. I never faced hunger growing up, so I was not aware how detrimental it is to some families. It is heartbreaking to see the statistics of hunger within households, and I want to help decrease those numbers as much as possible." Q: What's your favorite volunteer activity? A: "My favorite volunteer activity is sorting through donations. Although, I do love all the volunteer activities—except onions!" Q: What's something we may not know about you? A: "I love to play video games and work on my car in my free time." To become a Hunger Hero like Sharina, visit https://lnkd.in/g7vzUmwp.

October was a milestone month—SFBFS and our 125 partner agencies reached more people than ever before in our 48-year history. While we're honored to serve our community, this unfortunate record highlights the ongoing hunger crisis in Sacramento County. Support our fight against hunger by donating today at sacramentofoodbank.org.

Earlier this month, we sat down with ABC10 to talk about how we're tackling hunger in our community and how you can help, especially this holiday season. To support SFBFS during ABC10's Stand Against Hunger campaign, visit https://lnkd.in/ggtbmswC.

In what's becoming an annual tradition, Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis volunteered with us yesterday and brought with him a generous donation of 35,000 boxes of GOODLES mac and cheese for the holiday season! We're so grateful to the Sabonis family, our partners at the Sacramento Kings and our friends at GOODLES for their continued support of SFBFS and our community members!?
