Today, we closed our doors and brought our 80+ staff members together for our last all-hands meeting before the busy holiday season. Our team used this time to gear up for the next two months, a crucial stretch filled with the Turkey Drive, Run to Feed the Hungry, holiday food distributions and our normal day-to-day operations leading the fight against hunger in Sacramento County. We're feeling energized, and we're fully prepared to serve our community with compassion during this critical time of the year. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff who are ready to go above and beyond this season. ??

Hope is in every jar! The Jars of Hope initiative with RiceSelect and California Association of Food Banks is making an impact this fall. Through November 10, Riviana Foods will donate $1 to California's food banks - like us! - for every RiceSelect jar sold at Ralphs Grocery Company, Food4Less/FoodsCo and Walmart. Help make a difference - buy a jar to support local food banks and feed hope. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ggaYxYVN.

A huge thank you to Catholic Charities USA and the Walmart Foundation (Walmart) for helping us spread the word about CalFresh! With their support, we're able to increase public knowledge of this impactful program and help eligible Sacramentans get money for the groceries they need.

Meet Sharon Marshall, this month's Hunger Hero! Sharon was one of the first volunteers to come back after the start of the pandemic in 2020, and she's logged 200 hours with us since then. She's a mother of three, with her youngest two having just graduated high school. As she adjusts to her retirement from the Franchise Tax Board, Sharon's looking forward to having more time to travel, volunteer, garden and spend time with friends. Q: What motivated you to become a volunteer? A: "I have always had a strong desire to help others. I love the flexible schedule the food bank offers and the hands-on work." Q: What is your favorite volunteer activity? A: "I love the repack room. It gets chaotic and messy, but it's fun to work together at a fast pace." Q: What might someone be surprised to learn about you? A: "I've had a list of 50 things to do for over 30 years. I'm still working away on my list and have had many memorable adventures, including milking a cow, seeing an eclipse and throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game." Did you know that we purchase nearly 40% of the food we distribute? We're thankful for the generosity of partners like the Hearst Foundation for making this possible. Their recent gift will enable us to purchase 750,000 pounds of delicious, nutritious produce - like these cabbages - for our neighbors in need! - Hearst / Hearst Foundations Annette Hepler.

We were honored to have employees from QTS Data Centers spend their annual CoreGiving Day with us earlier this afternoon. Recently, CoreGiving made a gift that'll provide over 28,000 meals to our neighbors in need. And today, they doubled down on their hunger fighting efforts by packing 382 boxes during their volunteer shift, the equivalent of another 10,505 meals. We're so grateful for them sharing their time, talent and treasure with us!

Our Transportation team is so excited to hit the road with our brand new chassis! Thanks to funds from Raley's Food For Families, we were able to purchase a new chassis, which we paired with a recycled box and liftgate from one of our older trucks. This will allow us to recover and distribute even more food for our neighbors in need throughout Sacramento County. Thank you, Raley's Food For Families!
