This year’s event will feature an inspiring award presentation and resource booths, offering Sacramento County businesses the perfect opportunity to connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs, community leaders, and our network of dedicated partners trailblazing the future of environmental sustainability. We encourage all businesses to participate as this event provides a chance to gain valuable insights and connect with resources to support their business at any stage of their sustainable journey. Serving approximately 21,000 students, Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) has started looking forward towards the future of transportation and sustainability. Through partnerships with SMUD and Sacramento Metro Air Quality Management District, the school district has electrified 4 of their transport busses and added nine vehicle charging stations. With plans on adding additional electric busses by 2035. Through the efforts in bus electrification, students are introduced to the vast technology of electric vehicles and simultaneously the FCUSD is contributing to cleaner air for the community.

Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center, an organization serving seniors and youth in Sacramento County, has made strides towards a greener future as part of their programs and facility. Collaborating with?SMUD, this organization has been able to upgrade their ninety-year-old building by installing energy efficient windows, new HVAC systems, electric water heaters, two electric vehicles and charging stations. Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center has demonstrated their commitment to environmental sustainability, and through the resources provided by SMUD, and saving money by going electric, can reallocate their funds back to the community they serve. Furthermore, these facility enhancements serve as an education platform for the community, offering seniors and families exposure to innovative sustainable technology. The first ever award winner in the revitalized Green Design category of the Sustainable Business Awards, Reimagine Mack Road Community Center stands as a cornerstone in the Mack Road neighborhood. Their programs provide youth support through after-school activities such as homework assistance, music studio sessions, bicycle workshops and other recreational pursuits. In addition, programs for adults are available such as workforce education. In the spirit of the Green Design Award, this center significantly contributes to the improvement and empowerment of the Mack Road community by implementing community driven initiatives. Through support from various organizations including SMUD, Sacramento Tree Foundation, the Sacramento Kings, the Reimagine Mack Road Community Center has upgraded their facility, indoor and outdoor lighting, and added a fully LED lit basketball court. Reimagine Mack Road Community Center is among eight recipients of the Sustainable Business Awards set to take place on September 26, 2024. Meristem, a unique program dedicated to preparing neurodiverse young adults for a lift of greater independence and fulfillment. Located on a 14-acre campus in Fair Oaks, Meristem weaves environmental sustainability into their campus practices. Students learn sustainability in every aspect of their curriculum at Meristem. The 3-acre campus garden and natural landscape provides opportunities for students to practice water conservation, protection, plant zoning and gain an appreciation for the delicate balance of natural resource allocation. Everything from culinary classes to woodworking with fallen branches on campus, each course is crafted to teach regenerative economy. Congratulations to GreenWaste of Sacramento for your achievement in winning the 2024 Sustainable Business Award for Solid Waste Reduction! GreenWaste is an industry leader in pioneering sustainable innovations and technology with many firsts in the United States. GreenWaste, boasts a 75-90% recovery rate of the Construction and Demolition debris received from the community, most of it transformed into landscaping material to be used on a residential or commercial scale. GreenWaste is the only third-party certified transfer facility in the Sacramento area certified by both the Recycling Certification Institute (RCI) and Sacramento County.
