An audit of California’s Department of Housing and Community Development gave the agency its lowest possible ranking, finding that it lacked adequate policies to prevent, detect and respond to fraud or "protect the $319.5 million in federal homelessness funds, which were distributed during the COVID-19 pandemic, from the possibility of misuse." Without these policies in place, it is not only possible, but likely that these funds can "disappear" while our housing crisis worsens. Earlier this month Sac CLT had the opportunity to visit with the #Gardenland #Northgate Neighborhood Association. We got to hear from neighbors who voiced their concerns about neglectful landowners, and the lack of available housing.
