SABG would like to take a moment to celebrate a true hero, former Army Pilot Robert (Bob) H. Doolan, and his awe-inspiring story. ? Early in life, Bob knew he wanted to be a pilot. To achieve his goal, he joined the US Army Air Corps in 1940. Bob eventually became a navigator on the B-17 Flying Fortress, flying 15 missions in total. ? In his 15th?and final mission, Bob and his crew were shot down over occupied France and were forced to make an emergency crash landing. Slightly injured, Bob and the other men split up into two-man teams and spent about two weeks on the run until they were captured by the Gestapo. Once interrogations ended, he was moved to the notorious Nazi prison camp Stalag Luft 3 with many other allied officers, where he rode out the remainder of the war as a POW. ? Bob recently shared his life mission, which he first came up with during his time as a POW: “‘Oh Lord, let me always remember every day I awaken is a beautiful day. There's always someone worse off than I am who needs my help. There's no such thing as bad food … and prayer will accomplish miracles … and I try to live by that.’” ? After the war, Bob returned to his home in Cincinnati where he spent the next 40 years as an insurance agent and grew active in his community. In addition to his work in the Army Air Corps, he is the founder of the St. Antoninus Boy Scout Troop 614. He served in that role for about forty years. He is a true American hero and is truly deserving of the Ford Oval of Honor, in addition to the many other honors he has received. ? Bob will forever be part of our family here at SABG due to his connection to SABG employee Phil Jolly. They met each other through the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) program. ? We are all very thankful to Bob for his service to our country. He passed away in 2022 at the age of 105. Please take a moment to remember him. ? #HonoraHeroSABG
