At the launch of ASD’s 2024 Facts & Figures report in Brussels, Micael Johansson, Vice-Chairman of the ASD Board and CEO of Saab, highlighted the urgency of strengthening Europe’s defence industry to meet rising global challenges. He stated, "Europe must intensify its actions to secure a resilient and competitive industry, ensuring we meet the increasing demand in an unpredictable world." Johansson’s remarks the need for robust policies and investments to sustain adaptability and competitiveness.?
At a press conference this morning in Brussels, ASD released the industry Facts & Figures for 2024, quantifying the aerospace and defence industry’s contribution to employment, turnover, exports, and research & development investment over the previous year. Guillaume Faury, ASD President and CEO of Airbus said: "2025 is the year for decisive action to secure Europe’s future. An industrial policy that fully supports aerospace, space, and defence will empower Europe to lead globally in innovation, security, and sustainability." Johansson Micael, Vice-Chairman of the ASD Board, and CEO of Saab: "We are encouraged by efforts to strengthen the European defence industry. In its global debut at the multinational exercise CRUZEX 2024, Gripen E exceeded expectations, making a powerful first impression. The Saab 17 started a long, unbroken line of homegrown combat aircraft produced by Saab and Sweden, a line and capability that continues today with the Gripen fighter jet. The Brazilian Gripen fighters are successfully participating in the multinational exercise CRUZEX 2024 in Natal, Brasil. There have been a mix of scenarios where up to 60 different aircraft flying together, to smaller groups of aircraft practicing beyond visual range combat flights, applying tactics and using long range missiles in simulated conditions.
