?? Honored to participate in the 3rd Annual Gala and Fundraiser for the American Armenian National Security Institute (AANSI) on June 13, 2024! ?? As EVP/COO for S10 and Advisor to AANSI, I deeply appreciate the invitation to attend AANSI's 3d annual gala and fund raiser. The opportunity to speak during the evening was equally appreciated, especially in light of the many distinguished attendees. My remarks focused on the importance of AANSI's mission - which very much aligns with the S10 mission - deepening understanding and education on critical national security issues. AANSI's work to educate Congressional, military, and civilian national security decision-makers on American defense and strategic interests, particularly in the South Caucasus, is more crucial than ever. The visible signs of Armenia's rapprochement with the West and the simultaneous cooling of relations between Yerevan and Moscow are heartening and must be supported with strong actions. The anticipated robust American Armenian security cooperation agreement is not just a policy goal; it is a cornerstone for regional stability and a testament to our commitment to our allies. My recent visit to Armenia in February was also enlightening. It was a privilege to provide lectures at the Armenian National Defense Research University (War College) and engage with stalwart students and professionals of the Army who are the future leaders of Armenia. It was a pleasure to observe the evening's multifaceted program featuring national security speakers, cultural experts, and talented young Armenian singers. Special congratulations to the Armenian Volunteers enlisting in the AANSI Humanitarian Support Brigade, preparing to travel to Armenia this summer. ?? Honored to serve as the Keynote Speaker at the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Industry Week on June 12th! ?? As EVP/COO of S10 Consulting, I am deeply appreciative of the Greater Kansas City Post for inviting me. SAME's mission of fostering collaboration between industry and government is crucial for national security, a mission that S10 Consulting is equally committed to. During my speech, we discussed critical topics like the DoD Electrification Memo ?, microgrids for energy resilience ??, addressing PFAS contamination ??, and the importance of embodied carbon in construction ??. These discussions underscored the essential role the AEC community plays in bolstering national security through innovative solutions and sustainable practices. The week also did an excellent job or embodying the SAME mission of building leaders and leading collaboration among government and industry to develop multidisciplined solutions to national security infrastructure challenges. A special thanks to Justin Baker, COL Travis Rayfield, Christina Przygoda, and Erin Wheeler and Jack Johannes for their dedication and contributions,, especially Erin for her work in planning and overseeing execution of the week and Jack for convincing GKC leadership that I was a worthwhile speaker ?? ?? . I also applaud the GKC Post and want to highlight the importance of their initiatives that draw high school and college students into the AEC industry and in promotion of study in STEM. Trekking Through the Camino: Lessons for Navigating the Public Sector ??? brought to you by the Camino Consultant, S10 Consulting, LLC As I reflect on my continuing journey along the Camino Frances -Camino de Santiago de Compostela, I'm reminded of the striking parallels between the challenges of the trail and the complexities of the public sector. In particular, I find resonance in the following themes: ?? Adaptability: Just like on the Camino, where conditions can change in an instant, navigating the public sector requires a nimble approach, always ready to adjust course based on shifting circumstances. ?? Resilience: The Camino is testing my resolve with its rugged terrain and unpredictable weather, much like the setbacks and obstacles we face in the public sector. But just as I am persevering daily on the trail, resilience is key to overcoming challenges and staying the course in our pursuits. ?? Leadership: Inspiring and guiding fellow pilgrims along the Camino who seemingly are forlorn based on the current conditions mirrors the importance of effective leadership in both a client company and its consultants in order to most optimally prepare for public sector opportunities, requirements and shaping operations like industry or association venues, where rallying teams towards a common purpose to collectively engage and have deep meaningful discussions of technologies, services or products is essential for success. ?? Teamwork: Collaborating with fellow trekkers highlights the power of teamwork, a principle equally vital in the public sector engagements where achieving shared goals often relies on collective effort and collaboration. ???Communication: Clear communication is paramount during my Camino journey, fostering understanding and unity among our group. Similarly, effective communication is foundational in the public sector, ensuring alignment and progress towards shared objectives. ?? Decision-making: Making informed choices along the Camino (routes, ex, etc.),is crucial, a skill directly applicable to the public sector, where strategic decision-making shapes outcomes and drives progress. ? Time management:Maximizing our time and resources on the trail enables us to make steady progress towards our destination—a lesson equally pertinent in the public sector, where efficient time management is key to meeting deadlines and achieving goals. As our team engages with clients at events like this week’s AUSA Global Force Symposium and Exhibition, we're reminded of the importance of these principles in our work. By staying adaptable, resilient, and focused on effective leadership and teamwork, we're not just chasing shiny objects—we're strategically positioning ourselves and our clients for success in the public sector landscape. ?? Final Day of Preparation: Tomorrow We Begin!?? Good leavening from France and St Jean Pied de Port. As the sun sets on the eve of our journey, I reflect on the challenges and opportunities that await us on the very first stage of the Camino de Santiago. Tomorrow, alongside my fellow pilgrims, I embark on a 15-mile odyssey from St Jean Port de Pied to Roncesvalles, the inaugural leg of this 500-mile pilgrimage. ??Planning: Just as in business, success on the Camino relies on the preparation and foresight of individuals. Experienced pilgrims, akin to seasoned consultants, offer invaluable guidance and experience when crafting one’s own detailed itinerary to ensure a smooth journey ahead. Each step forward is deliberate, guided by the wisdom of those who have walked this path before and aligned to your vision and strategy. ??♂?Discipline: As we traverse the Pyrenees, individuals must exhibit discipline and resolve. Challenges will test our mettle, but it's through unwavering focus and steadfast determination that we overcome. Successes are shared, and challenges are conquered when individuals draw upon their inner strength and the collective wisdom of the Camino community. Tomorrow's stage is not for the faint of heart. With an elevation gain of 1365 meters and 15 miles to cover, it's a test of both physical endurance and mental resilience for every pilgrim. But it's within these challenges that we find our strength, drawing inspiration from each step taken and each obstacle overcome. Continue to accompany me and our group, (Scott Rodriguez, Jeff Smith, and Don Shannon) as I document this journey, celebrating the spirit of camaraderie and the pursuit of personal growth and reflection. Musings by the “Camino Consultant” brought to you by S10 Consulting and “Jack Handy”?? I am at the airport about to take off for the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, 500 mile pilgrimage. So, a few deep thoughts: the Camino de Santiago de Compostela (Way of St. James). A journey of self-discovery and reflection. As I embark on this pilgrimage, I can't help but ponder the irony of its name. Cam In O, it's made up of three words, but what does Cam Newton have to do with walking? He's a football player, known for his impressive runs on the field. Perhaps I'll be 'In' Spain, immersing myself in its rich culture. But as for the 'O', well, maybe it's the symbol of the unknown, much like the answers from some of my consulting clients about trying to do business in the public sector and needing a deliberate strategy ?? or perhaps simply the unexpected adventures that await me on this path.
