Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton would like to thank Elaine Griffin, a stage IIB colon cancer survivor, for sharing her personal story of resilience in a feature in the New York Post titled, “I got diagnosed with colon cancer at 44 — these were my 4 main symptoms,” during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. ???? Elaine, an associate director of grants with the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers University, was only 44 years old when she was diagnosed in April 2024 by Meera Yogarajah, MD, Medical Oncologist, the Cancer Center at RWJUH Hamilton. Immediately following her diagnosis, she underwent a successful emergency laparoscopy with surgeon Charles Eisengart, MD, followed by chemotherapy at the Cancer Center. Read Elaine’s story here: https://lnkd.in/esJqNdZ3 Since her diagnosis, Elaine has made colon cancer awareness her mission. For the last 11 months, she’s leveraged Facebook to share the importance of screenings and, thanks to her efforts, 1,400 people have completed their colonoscopies, two having been diagnosed with unexpected colon and stomach cancer. Thank you, Elaine for championing such an important issue and for your advocacy! Early detection saves lives. This March, we honor the generations of women whose leadership and contributions have shaped RWJBarnabas Health, the field of health care and the world. This year’s theme, "Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations," is especially meaningful to us as New Jersey’s largest academic health system. We’re also proud to share that Newsweek has recognized RWJBarnabas Health as one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Women 2025”! This Patient Safety Awareness Week, we take a moment to reflect on the core of what we do every day: ensuring the safety, well-being and dignity of those we serve. This year's theme, “Curiosity Saves Patients,” invites us all to embrace curiosity, one of our organization's core values. The smallest observation, the simplest question, or a moment of pause can ultimately save lives. Together, we can make a difference. We thank our team members for your unwavering commitment to keep our patients – and each other – safe. #PSAW25 #PatientSafety #LetsBeHealthyTogether

RWJBarnabas Health is the first health system in NJ to offer SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Navigators in every hospital, helping patients and community members apply for and maintain food assistance benefits. In partnership with the New Jersey Department of Human Services’ Division of Family Development, this initiative addresses rising food insecurity and promotes health equity by expanding access to healthy food and nutrition education. SNAP Navigators provide free, confidential assistance to walk you through how SNAP works, eligibility requirements and what documents you need to apply. They can also answer questions and correct misconceptions about SNAP to help you decide if it’s right for you. Learn more: rwjbh.org/snap For information on the SNAP Navigator program statewide, visit NJSNAPNavigators.gov #LetsBeHealthyTogether

We recognize National Women Physicians Day, honoring the path that female doctors have paved since 1849 and sharing our gratitude and appreciation for all our women physicians at RWJBarnabas Health. The day marks the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States in 1849. Dr. Blackwell initiated the movement that helped women gain entry and equality in the field of #medicine. We celebrate the courage of Elizabeth Blackwell and the accomplishments of female physicians everywhere. Thank you for your outstanding commitment and ongoing contributions to health care.
