We're proud to announce that RWJBarnabas Health is expanding its partnership with the Princeton-based nonprofit Share My Meals across the health system to help feed more New Jersey families struggling with hunger. RWJBarnabas Health launched a pilot program last year at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in which surplus meals from the cafeteria were donated to Share My Meals to help support local families experiencing food insecurity. The program yielded over 5,200 meals served, saved 3.25 tons of food, and avoided 29,300 pounds of carbon emissions in the first year. Through this relationship with Share My Meals, each participating health system hospital has identified local partner organizations – such as a food pantry, soup kitchen or other community-focused entity – to donate surplus meals to, ensuring that nutritious food reaches those in need. 关于我们
As care providers, we see firsthand how differences in access to quality care and differences in socio-economic conditions can affect the health of individuals and entire neighborhoods. So we have been taking action! We are addressing the socioeconomic conditions that impact the health of individuals and we are in our communities providing health education and programming, and connecting people with appropriate community resources. Through initiatives such as Wellness on Wheels and connections with local farmers markets, we’re bringing fresh, healthy foods to areas that are considered food deserts and other underserved communities. We’re providing safe spaces to ensure that patients of all races, ethnicities, and cultures have high-quality, equitable and antiracist clinical care. And we’re doubling down on our commitment to Diversity Equity and Inclusion hiring practices. As an anchor institution, we are committed to developing career ladders for our local and diverse workforce and supporting our local and diverse businesses. A community is only as strong as its least healthy residents, that is why we are in more underserved areas than any other health system in the state, and we will keep working to bring equitable care to all communities in the state of New Jersey.

March is National Nutrition Month, and at RWJBarnabas Health, we know that access to nutritious food is essential for good health. That’s why our SNAP Navigators have been on the ground at community health events, partnering with local leaders – including Senator Brian Stack, Assemblyman Gabriel Rodriguez, Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin, Senator M. Teresa Ruiz, Councilman Anibal Ramos and Congressman Rob Menendez — to connect families with vital food assistance. At Essex County’s most recent community resource event, our SNAP Navigators assisted with 22 applications, ensuring more households can access the nutrition they need. Since launching in January 2025, the RWJBarnabas Health SNAP Navigator Program has reached 503 households and helped individuals and families complete 301 applications. We’re proud to support our communities in achieving healthier futures. To learn more about the SNAP Navigator program at RWJBH, visit: rwjbh.org/snap #LetsBeHealthyTogether

This March, we honor the generations of women whose leadership and contributions have shaped RWJBarnabas Health, the field of health care and the world. This year’s theme, "Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations," is especially meaningful to us as New Jersey’s largest academic health system. We’re also proud to share that Newsweek has recognized RWJBarnabas Health as one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Women 2025”! Cheers to our entire RWJBarnabas family for fostering a workplace where women thrive and make a lasting impact. #LetsBeHealthyTogether #WomensHistoryMonth

This Patient Safety Awareness Week, we take a moment to reflect on the core of what we do every day: ensuring the safety, well-being and dignity of those we serve. This year's theme, “Curiosity Saves Patients,” invites us all to embrace curiosity, one of our organization's core values. The smallest observation, the simplest question, or a moment of pause can ultimately save lives. Together, we can make a difference. We thank our team members for your unwavering commitment to keep our patients – and each other – safe. #PSAW25 #PatientSafety #LetsBeHealthyTogether

RWJBarnabas Health is the first health system in NJ to offer SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Navigators in every hospital, helping patients and community members apply for and maintain food assistance benefits. In partnership with the New Jersey Department of Human Services’ Division of Family Development, this initiative addresses rising food insecurity and promotes health equity by expanding access to healthy food and nutrition education. SNAP Navigators provide free, confidential assistance to walk you through how SNAP works, eligibility requirements and what documents you need to apply. They can also answer questions and correct misconceptions about SNAP to help you decide if it’s right for you.
