Solar farms can operate for up to 40 years, but how long does it take for one to take shape???? ? Surprisingly, it can take as little as four years from the identification of the site for a solar farm to become operational. Once commissioned, it can generate clean energy for decades before being dismantled or repowered. Click through our slides to discover the key steps involved in building a solar farm!

A UK first! Sofia Offshore Wind Farm will be the first in the country to use 150 recyclable blades, setting a new standard for sustainability in offshore wind. Located 195 km off the UK coast on Dogger Bank, Sofia (1.4 GW) is one of Europe’s largest offshore wind projects. We are reducing waste at the end of the turbine lifecycle by integrating Siemens Gamesa recyclable blades and enhancing sustainability by leveraging advanced material recovery.

We can look back on a successful 2024 fiscal year. RWE achieved strong Group earnings and invested heavily in expanding its renewables portfolio. In numbers: We posted adjusted EBITDA of €5.7 billion, exceeding our own forecast. We invested €10 billion net. And we commissioned new plants with a total capacity of around 2 gigawatts. This expansion is also reflected in our electricity generation from renewables, reaching a new all-time high. Our construction projects, totalling more than 12 gigawatts of new capacity, are progressing as planned. With our robust portfolio of renewables, battery storage and flexible generation, we are well positioned to supply the growing electricity demand. However, given higher uncertainties in the investment environment, we have raised return requirements for new investments to an average of more than 8.5%. As a result of stricter risk management and higher return expectations, we have adjusted our investment programme: We now plan to invest €35 billion net in the years 2025 to 2030, approximately €10 billion net less than we had previously planned. Our mid- and long-term earnings per share targets remain unchanged, as does our target to increase our dividend by 5% to 10% annually through 2030. As planned, a dividend of €1.10 per share will be proposed to the Annual General Meeting for fiscal 2024. This is an increase of €0.10 per share. For the current fiscal year, RWE plans to increase the dividend again by €0.10 to €1.20 per share. A big thank you to the entire #TeamRWE, who are driving these achievements with outstanding work.?

By storing surplus energy, we are reimagining the future at the Westfalen power plant site in Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. RWE is building three new battery parks with a total installed capacity of 600 MW and around 1.2 GWh of storage. With an investment of several hundred million euros, the facility will stabilise the electricity grid and reduce price spikes. It will also provide crucial grid inertia using advanced, super-fast inverters. ? The systems will operate at full output for up to two hours. Once combined with the system that went live in February, the site will reach a total storage capacity of 1.35 GWh—enough to charge over 23,000 electric cars. This project, set to start operations between 2026 and 2028, marks a significant step towards a more flexible, sustainable energy system.

Last week, we were at CERAWeek 2025 in Houston! Industry leaders came together to tackle the biggest questions shaping the future of energy. Markus Krebber, Andrew Flanagan and Ingmar Ritzenhofen joined panels discussing the rapid growth in electricity demand, the need for an all-of-the-above approach, and the role of solar in economic development.? The key takeaway: achieving a sustainable energy future requires collaboration, innovation, and strong policy support. These discussions are critical in shaping the next phase of the energy transition, and we are focussed on turning ideas into action.

Wind Peak Breezes Into Port – Delivering the Future of Offshore Wind ? Watch as the brand-new, state-of-the-art Wind Peak turbine installation vessel from Cadeler arrives, ready to transport the first 14MW turbine components for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm—195km offshore, where installation is set to begin. ? With foundations in place and turbine installation starting soon, we’re on track to start powering this year. But we’re not just building a wind farm—we’re setting new standards for sustainability. In collaboration with Siemens Gamesa, 50% of the turbine blades will be recyclable, showcasing how RWE is driving innovation while supporting jobs and prosperity in coastal communities. Once complete, Sofia will be capable of powering the equivalent of over 1.2 million UK homes, playing a key role in RWE’s commitment to offshore wind expansion and supporting the UK Government’s Clean Power target for 2030.

All aboard! Transporting the essential components of offshore wind farms starts at a crucial point: the port. For fixed-bottom offshore wind projects, ports need to meet exacting standards—strong quays, deep waters, and vast storage areas. Strategically located, these ports offer fast access to maintenance vessels and spare parts, while also creating skilled local jobs. Find out more about the importance of this vital infrastructure.
