Data centers are just one part of Virginia’s digital infrastructure ecosystems. It’s time to broaden the conversation beyond data centers or risk stalling investment, limiting Virginia's potential and leaving us behind. Get enlightened on the topic by reading this op-ed column in today's Richmond Times-Dispatch by RVA757 Connects co-chairs Theodore L. Chandler, Jr., and Tom Frantz and RVA757 Connects CEO John W. Martin. https://lnkd.in/ezrgfxQx

Check out the latest Op-Ed column from Tom Frantz, Theodore L. Chandler, Jr. and John W. Martin about how more subsea cables coming ashore in Virginia Beach are important components to digital infrastructure ecosystems and are helping the I-64 Innovation Corridor become a Global Internet Hub. Data centers also are a component of this digital infrastructure ecosystems. It’s time to broaden the conversation from data centers to digital infrastructure ecosystems. Good article in the latest edition of Richmond magazine about the bigger picture surrounding the data center debate -- that data centers are just one part of the digital infrastructure ecosystem that drives our economic growth. The current conversation on data centers has been too narrow. Virginia’s digital infrastructure ecosystems include robust local and intercity terrestrial networks, network rings, internet exchanges, reliable energy systems, access to subsea cables and data centers of all types and sizes. Seamlessly working together, these components of digital infrastructure ecosystems enable connectivity, innovation, and economic growth. The article, written by reporter Mark Newton, quotes RVA757 Connects' CEO John W. Martin. Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/gZpGfaxK

City of Virginia Beach reached a monumental milestone on Monday Feb. 10 with the announcement that construction is underway to accommodate for four new subsea cables. GLOBALINX, which operates a cable landing station and data center in Corporate Landing Business Park, is behind this new subsea cable project. When the project is completed to add four more subsea cables at the Sandbridge landing site, it will double Virginia Beach’s capacity. It also will provide two diverse subsea landing sites – at the Camp Pendleton and the Sandbridge areas of Virginia Beach - that will connect those cables to the world. Adding the subsea cables advances the quest for the I-64 Innovation Corridor megaregion from Hampton Roads to the Richmond area to become a Global Internet Hub. The I-64 Innovation Corridor megaregion has all the digital components to become the world’s next Global Internet Hub. RVA757 Connects is doing this by working together with nearby neighboring regions leveraging and packaging our complementary digital assets. John W. Martin, president and CEO of RVA757 Connects, spoke during the groundbreaking ceremony, talking about the importance of having robust digital infrastructure ecosystems that include intra- and intercity terrestrial networks, internet exchanges, regional network rings, data centers of various types and sizes, and, for some ecosystems, subsea cables. Greg Twitt, CEO of Globalinx, has been working on this project for years. He thanked a variety of city officials and others for their help and support. The groundbreaking event was put on by Chris Mitchell and Virginia Beach Economic Development department.
