I may have seemed a bit reclusive over recent months, but those collaborating with us behind the scenes at Chordal know that things have been anything but quiet. I’m unbelievably excited to share what we’ve just launched at Chordal.com For those of you who are familiar with Chordal’s mission, it will come as no surprise that the next stop in our journey would be transactional. After 6 years and many people working on / advising this, we’ve reached a major milestone: the ability to enable a variety of end-to-end synch transactions in a way that is not only highly scalable, but preserves the complex legal and rights framework that is necessary for the music industry to fully engage with it. There’s a lot of chaos happening in the synch startup environment. Companies making claims about “revolutionizing the industry” by requiring pre-pricing and all manner of blind pre-clearance. At the risk of sounding terse – we’re frankly not interested. There’s too much nuance in synch to fully surrender to pre-pricing and blanket terms…yes even if driven by “smart” algorithms giving quotes or even estimates/ballparks. Not to mention the impossible burden of broadly pre-clearing moral rights across a large repertoire. It doesn’t work. InstantClear? lays the groundwork to prevent any of that, and from Day 1 introduces a system where rights holders remain in full control. That may include a broad approach to pre-clearance, or a laser-focused one. The key point is: they alone get to choose their strategy, and this feeling of agency ripples through the entire rights management stack, ultimately to artists and songwriters.
